Sounds like a leaking head gasket.

Testimonial: "thanks for the info...is this an expensive fix? I'm guessing it is, so not sure it's worth repairing. But thank you for responding!"

White smoke coming from exhaust, need help

White smoke is condensation from a buildup of water from within the exhaust system - if it was blue smoke then it is burning oil ... let car sit for a few minutes and take the dipstick out - wipe it clean - then re-insert dipstick - take it back out and check level against gauge at bottom of dipstick if you think you may have overfilled the oil

VW Caddy Mk2 1.9SDI, engine hunting with black smoke from exhaust.

Hi mate

I have 3 VWs and 2 Audis the VAGCOM but before you go out and spend a ton do the following

Change fuel filter
Get you a can of Seafoam

Since my tanks are only 14 gallons I used half of it every 6 months to keep injectors cleaned.

But because you have so much black smoke I will do the full can on a tank of fuel. Give it a drive it will smoke white a bit while it clears all the all junk. If that don't help that injected went to VW injector heaven.

Good luck

Hi have white smoke and miss at start up

White smoke could be as simple as condensation in exhaust from sitting overnight. I'd be more concerned if white smoke continued when warmed up. The "miss" could be a bunch of things... When was last "healthy" tune up? Plugs, wires, ALL filters including fuel filter? I would start there, makes a good "ground zero" reference point and see if miss is still evident. You might also consider running a good fuel system cleaner w/next tank full of gas. Especially in winter months when temps fluctuate, condensation forms in tank. (water) Spark plugs & water don't get along well.

After driving my MazdaSpeed6 and I let it sit and idle or if I am at a red light, it starts pouring white smoke out of the exhaust. I take it to the dealership and they tell me nothing is wrong with it. ...

I think you should go for manual first after that it would be easy for you to solve your problem. I had visited this site past 2 months before for my vehicle and find it quite helpful may be you will also get something useful here

My 99, a3 seems to be burning oil at the rate of a litre every 2 months and theres a bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust

2 things here, using oil & white smoke,
1. i would use a product made by seaform called motor tune-up, you can get at napa, autozone or kragen, pour contents in oil and drive normal, this product is real good been using over ten years it will clean all the carbon around the rings & pistons and also clean lifters, sludge in motor, run in for about 3 weeks then change oil stuff costs about $ 9.00
2. White smoke out exhaust is either automatic transmission fluid from transmission or slight head gasket problem
