The oil pressure light goes on and off intermittently.

Hyundai 2002 xg350 - oil light goes on and off as I drove home yesterday. I gave it an oil and filter change and it stayed off almost a day. It started doing it again this afternoon, it seemed to stay off longer as I accelerated. I checked the oil level and it is good

I had a similar problem with my 2003 Sante Fe (intermittant problem, the light went off when I accelerated). I took it to the dealership. They looked for a bad send oil switch (not the problem) as well as some other possible culprits but could not, at first, find what was causing the light to come on (but they did confirm that I had low oil pressure). So, they took the engine apart. What it was was the pan was "dented" upwards, so that less oil was able to come in. It wasn't the bearings. It wasn't the crank case. It wasn't the oil pump. So, they fixed the dent, put everthing back together and . . .it worked! The light went off and stayed off. It cost $337 in labor. I was very very very relieved.

(Apologies if this explanation is hard to follow-I'm no mechanic and am basing my response on my understanding of the mechanic's explanation).

This light is telling you that the engine has low oil pressure, it may just be the sending unit on the engine that is defective, or it might have low oil pressure, since low oil pressure will destroy the engine bearings it is best to find out what is going on right away, replace the oil pressure sender 1st, if the light still comes on, have the oil pressure checked by a mechanic.

DO NOT RUN IT!! Oil light on means no pressure to lubricate engine, even in intervals lack of oil pressure will soon lock your engine. Change the oil pump before running it again

Oil light comes on and then a light tapping is heard in engine

Try an oil change with the manufacturer recommended oil. Make sure it is the correct weight, type and grade. I never recommend synthetic for older cars with high miles. You can also buy oil additives at the parts store designed to increase oil pressure and quiet noisy lifters/valves. Oil light means low oil pressure, usually due to broken down old oil, dirty oil filter, or incorrect oil weight used.

Hi there, my 2002 Dodge Intrepid's oil light just came on (and STAYED on, no flickering) yesterday when we had a -20 degree day. I didn't warm up the car very good before taking off (maybe 30-40 seconds)....

The thing to do is to remove the oil pressure sender and put a mechanical oil pressure gauge onto the fitting. Start the car (if it will start) and watch the mechanical gauge. If there is no oil pressure or very low oil pressure (less than 5 psi minimum), immediately stop the engine. Engine damage is sure to result with oil pressure that low. The cause of the low pressure will have to be diagnosed and corrected before running the engine again. Causes of low pressure could be worn engine bearings or a worn out oil pump. There could also be a restriction in the oil system such as a clogged filter or clogged oil pump pick up screen in the oil pan. The oil itself, if it is dirty and full of moisture will become like mayonnaise in the bottom of the pan at such cold temperatures and the oil pump will not be able to pick it up.

I know this won't be easy to do in -20 degree weather. But your car should be towed home or to a shop and not run again until this oil pressure check can be done. I'm hoping damage has not already occurred.

After i filled my 2004 hyundai xg350 last nite and parked for half hour then drove hime ,it stalled ,but rstrated right away, but kind of jerked a little bit, when applying gas. after that i drove home...

Hello,
Absolutely, a dirty fuel filter could cause that. You may also check your air filter, a dirty air filter can cause a bad fuel/air mix ratio, which can have similar results to a dirty fuel filter.

I hope this helps you.

Oil light stays on even after complete oil change

It sounds like your oil pump is going bad..Well bd now since you said the light stayed on...And the noise you hear is the sound of a engine not getting enough oil, to lube all those metal parts,,,,You can replace your oil pump, and hopefully you didnt do too much damage to the motor....Goodluck...

Check engine light stays on.

You've made the correct decision. Let the dealership diagnose the issue. They'll tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

I need to find the location of the fuel filter on a Hyundai XG350 L, and what is the most cost effective way to get to it, and change it.

In 2002 XG 350 it is near the rear wheel drivers side, , You will need to put a rust lubricant on it once or twice a few days a part then you need two wrenches to remove it , . plus some gas will spill out after braking it lose wait till the gas stops..

Serpentine belt squeeling

To replace the sepentine belt: Get a 9/16 socket with a extension. Look under the car and look for the oil filter. Next to the oil filter you will see a bolt. Use the sock and losen the bolt. This will losen the tensioner. You will notice the bolt coming out, push the bolt up and the tensioner will allow you to remove the belt.
