Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight

1 Answer

Engine stalls and won't restart for several minutes

Power windows and seats are dead also. After a few minutes, sometimes up to a half hour the seats and windows will operate and then the car will start and run. This might not happen again for a few days or it might do it again right away.

I parked the car out behind the wood shed and in 15 to 20 years the car will be a classic. Then I'll give it to one of my grandchildren (if I have any) and let them figure it out.

Won't start twice in a row. Starts/stalls.

Have the fuel system pressure checked especially after you start and stop the engine. If the system loses pressure immediately, you have a problem with loss of residual pressure caused by a check valve or equivalent.

Stalling problems

By installing a fuel pressure gauge on service port on injection rail then drive car if dies pressure should be zero normal range 36-45 psi to keep the engine running low pressure could be stuck open pressure regulator. if pressure stays then you have eliminated fuel and move on to electrical problems such as spark.
