1999 dodge intrepid 2.7

Hey thanks for the advice.. and the congrats. i took the starter off and had it checked, it was bad so now i have a new one i have to put on. but it was a real challenge getting it off .. did you have to remove anything else besides the starter when you worked on yours? cuz the way it came out was a fluke and i cant imagine how the heck im gonna get the new one back on...or is it just a matter of hand size??? thanks again.

I had to take the heat shield off in order to get it back in other than that I had nothing else to remove but it is a pain in the a@$ both to get out and put back in but I am glad that you got it figured out.

How do you remove a starter from a 1999 dodge intrepid. 2.7 liter engine?

the starter is held on by 2 or 3 bolts

1. disconnect the positive cable from the battery
2. press on the brake for 10 sec. to drain all the power out of the vehicles main computer
3. locate the starter and disconnect the positive wire from the starter motor
4. disconnect the ground wire from the starter motor
5. remove the 2 or 3 bolts that hold the starter in ( remember the starter only goes in one way )
6. put in new starter
7. put in the bolts torque the bolts to 23 ft. pounds
8. replace the power to power bolt tighten up tight
9. replace the ground wire to the proper spot
10. return the positive battery wire to the proper spot
11. start the vehicle

Good Luck!

to save monies I would tell my daughter to go to an auto parts store and let them scan the code, then once the problem is found someone there may be able to put the part on for her or fix whatever problem there may be. Hope this helped Tim

99 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L no power to ignition. Receiving Code P1684 but battery connection okay.

I have a problem with a 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7. Looking for some help or suggestions.

Problem: I only have a spark from the #2 coil.

Background:

Vehicle purchased from an Auction and would not start. The vehicle would only backfire. When I removed the valve covers I found that one of the rocker arms had popped out. I replace the heads with heads from a 2001 Intrepid 2.7. I used the cams, primary and secondary timing chains from the 1999 heads. Not sure if I used the original primary (left) cam sprocket from the 1999 or one I purchased in a kit from a Dodge dealership. I tried to use the new primary timing chain but it was not the same. The replacement heads were surfaced and a new head gasket was used. When I tried to start the vehicle it had no spark. The vehicle had set at several locations and parts may have been removed or changed.

Solutions Tried:

I tried 4 ASD relays with no effect. I then tested all 4 on a 2002 Intrepid 2.7 that runs and all worked. I then discovered that the Crank PS has missing. I replaced the Crank PS with one from a 2002 Intrepid 2.7 with no effect. I then replaced the Crank PS with a Crank PS from a 1999 Intrepid 2.7 and got a spark at the #2 coil only. I then replaced the PCM and TCM from the same 1999 Intrepid I got the Crank PS from and still only have spark from #2 coil. I then changed the Cam PS, still spark only from #2 coil. I have tried several coil packs on connector #2 and all have spark. Each coil pack that sparks on #2 will not spark on any other connector. Spark from #2 coil is weak.

I then replaced the wire harness from the PCM to the coils and fuel injectors and still only have spark from the #2 coil. What am I missing? Any suggestions, advice or related information will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

When i turn over my key in my 99 dodge intrepid to start it ... it makes a click sound and doesnt start ... my stepdad said it might be my timing chain but i want to make sure.

could be a few things;
- could be battery terminals are loose.
- bad starter, or bad connection to your starter (like a wire loose)
- could be a starter relay (located in distribution box)
- could be that the timing belt is broken, or slipped off of the cam gear..
hope this helps....
could you also rate this advise, thanks....

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L Replaced starter,

Here is a pic of a schrader valve. They all look about the same.3.jpg
If there isn't much pressure, cycle the ignition without turning the engine over and try again. If it is still weak, you may need a new fuel filter. If it is strong, you may have dirty or clogged fuel injectors.

It may be spark, but I'm inclined to think it is fuel related.

Good luck, and keep us in the loop!

1999 Dodge intrepid tries to turn over but won't/can't. Everything turns on electronically that's supposed to, brand new battery.

clicking sound heard? starts fast then slows down as you crank over engine?ok try this --at the starter there is an electrical connection -- B+red wire and a smaller wire make sure these connections are tight. if ok proceed to next step--if you hear a low clicking sound when you turn the key and when trying to jump start the car still hear a click sound have someone tap on starter while you try to start it --- if car starts the starter solenoid is bad, anything more please write me back, Lee Davidian

Car doesnt start

Did you check to see if your old starter was any good, you may have a bad spot on your fly wheel and it is getting caught up on the bad spot and it want start try turning your fly wheel of the bad spot and then try to start it.
