Question about 1989 Honda Civic
Could be several things! Without knowing any further details (ie, does it sputter or just shut off, do you have to pump the gas peddle to start it again, that sort of stuff), my first gut reaction would be that your fuel line is clogged at some point along the line or your fuel pump itself could be going bad (they can sometimes take a while to totally fail!).

If it stutters before it turns off it might need a oil change, or else it could be a soliniod
