Van stalled it wouldn't start, when lorry came to tow it there was fluid all over the road. It's a quickshift gearbox and the Renault garage are saying they have to take the gearbox off to check it I thought it was a sealed unit? Why would they do that. To me it seems like a hose problem and possibly hydraulic fluid that's leaked.

sounds like a new clutch is needed,pressure plate weak ,oil on clutch causing it to stick,thrust bearing collapsing as its plastic ,spigot shaft rusty causing clutch plate to stick ,evan more causes but i could write all night ,check oil in gearbox

how was your shifting is it rough or kinna jam on any gear..your saying that the leak if from the drive shaft and there is no complain about shifting you might looking for a damage seal on the hub its easy to replace it you just need to buy the puller...

youll have to take it a shop and have them fill the system with "smoke" and examine the entire system for the "smoke". the smoke will pour out from where ever it is leaking from

had exactly the same problem with mine, its in my mates garage as we speak. he had to take the engine out open the gear box and check the bearings. All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me.
