I had the same problem. Manipulate the alternator as far down as possible. We took off the driver's side tire and my husband stood on the rotor. He had to put some pressure on it but the alternator just fell out.

I have a 1997 honda accord LX 4 door 5 speed. I have an oil leak coming from somewhere where the filter is. Has anyone came across this problem?

im sure its just an oil filter leaking, just reach down and see if its loose buy trying to tighten it. if it tightens keep an eye on it too see if that fixes it. sometimes you just cant retighten it you have to change it, so that means oil change time. now if its not the filter. you may have to check the oil sending unit. different cars have them in different places, some buy the oil filter some on the top of motor some in the bottoms. if an iol sending unit is going bad you will have a trail of oil. and the car will sometime smoke really bad.. i hope this helps

Very difficult indeed. Try 1/4 drive ratchet or 12mm box end wrench--bottom bolt goes through the adjuster-really can't see it-slow go but do able

2000 honda accord altenator

I had this same problem and had to figiure out how to do it myself. The alternator is very easy to loosen and disassemble from the engine, but extremely difficult to get out. The engine compartment is very tight, not allowing it to come out. Before you remove the alternator, you should first unclamp the radiator and move it out of the way. This will allow you enough room to remove the bad alternator and install the new one. You can purchase a replacement alternator from most any auto parts store for < $100 on a lifetime warranty. If you follow this instruction and move the radiator out of the way, you can complete this job in about 2 hours. It is very easy and can be done with minimal tools. On the other hand, if you screw around like I did, trying to figure out how to be Houdini and "manouver" the alternator in such a way that you can avoid moving the radiator, it will take you 4+ hours. This method simply won't work. Enjoy....
