Question about 1998 Subaru Forester

1 Answer

Engine available I just had an engine put into a 1998 Forrester. Any suggestions of where I can advertise the old engine? I'm not looking to make much money on it but I hate to see it go to scrap. It was running when it was pulled, but due to knocking and leaking head gaskets the mechanic advised replacing it. There was a lot of foaming and loss of coolant. No, it was not damaged by overheating. Thanks for any pointers.

Save all the parts for your own needs, like the heads and all the sensors and accessories.  You never know!  The rest is worth some money at the local scrap yard, maybe 50 dollars!

Can I look up a car using the vin number?

If you have the full VIN, you can type it into Google, and it will likely come back with a couple of advertisements for "vehicle history." They want to sell you this information. What is available without cost are basic vehicle info like engine, body style, year of manufacture, and perhaps location of manufacturing plant where it was built.

I need a smog diagram for a 1980 gm motor

Dave, you will need to find out which GM motor you have in 1980 GM probably had 40 car models considering Chev, Olds, Pont, Catalac, Buick ... Then you will have to find the info on that engine.. I suggest you try your local library, for an old book. or possibly advertise on Craigs list for literature or factory manual once you find out which engine you have.

What can make my 1998 Subaru Forrester engine unlock, the engine will not turn but the battery is good

check for a broken timing belt as the valves may be blocking the engine . Remove the spark plugs in case a cylinder is full of water /fuel and is in hydraulic lock. Check oil level as it may have seized the engine.

1998 Windstar 3.0 starting problem. About a month ago the engine would spit and turn but just wouldn't kickin. A mechanic gave me this much info as I cranked the car 1)Fuel was coming2) there was a spark...

not likely the coil,is engine check light on?has come on at all? if not light at all suggest you wait till check engine light comes on,then take to an autozone,or advance auto parts. they will code read it for free! just the check engine light HAS to be on to get a correct reading. only other suggestion is replace the idle control sensor.$20.00 for part 2 screws to remove and anyone that works at a parts store can tell you where it's located!i've always trusted advance auto parts, but i cannot recommend any one parts store to you as it would be considered as advertisement,so i suggest you do research on parts stores and use the one that you will be comfortable with. hope this helps and thank you for choosing

Service engine light still on after changing oil on 1998 Saturn sc2

Service engine light will not go out after changing your oil. Engine light is controlled by your computer and sensors. What you should do is go to auto zone and have them see why the light is on since they advertise that they will check it for free.Leave comment

Belt routing on my Olds 98 LSS. It looks like I

on the v6- 3.1 yes you do. here is how to change it yourself, first of all, release tension on the belt tensioner. remove belt from pulleys, place a floor jack under engine on motor mount side to take off. put a piece of wood on jack to protect engine. jackup to engine with very slight pressure to hold it while removing mount. take off mount, remove old belt, put new belt on. the tensioner can be moved with a 3/8 drive in tensioner hole. after belt is on replace mount. then lower jack down. thats it!!

Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee
