Question about Hyundai Motor 1999 Elantra

1 Answer

Hyundai shifting problems

1999 Hyundai Elantra seems to not go in gear when the shift is put in drive. It will set there for a little while before it goes into gear. It also seems to go out of gear sometimes when stopping. The rest of the shifting is positive without any slippage.

the brake light switch controls the shift lockout solenoid. perhaps this brake light switch is ajar or misaligned or inoperative. check to see if brake lights are working. there is an override to the shift lever lockout.

your shifts correctly, as your driving it downshifts and stay stuck at that gear when u stop and try to take off but intell u turn off your car and restart it it shifts correctly intell a few mins later. i am thinking that is a speed sensor (out signal problem) mounted on top of your transmission next to the battery tray, you will see couple of cable linkages next to it ...

2000 hyundia automatic

does your car vibrate when shifting gears ??
your problem could be either worn gears on the transmission or the transmission mounts.
if the car vibrates when shifting then most likely are your transmission mounts, when they get worn the transmission will move a little out of place and you will have problems shifting.
if it doesn't vibrate probably are your gears and transmission will have to be repaired.
