Not bad, but not good either when it is -20 outside! Seems to be a common complaint from what I have read.

Don't other factory car remotes have better range than that?

  • student4life Dec 04, 2008

Yeah, I just changed it about 3 weeks ago.

    Thanks for the info. though.

Ya, I hear you. I took in my brand new Impala for remote start repair. The service guy showed me that the remote works fine (about 40ft) in an empty parking lot, on a clear day. Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!! Here in Wisconsin, when it is 20 below with windchill, a 10 foot range in a parking lot that has other cars parked in it is unacceptable!! They can tell me "within specs" all they want but this feature is useless! Being 10 feet away is about 2 seconds from me being able to actually put the key in the ignition to start it. The extra 2 seconds doesn't heat up the car very much in below zero, windchill temps. Shame of Chevy for this design. The hilarious thing is, I also have a 2008 Grand Prix with remote start and that works 5 stories up, hundreds of feet away. Obviously an antenna design flaw that GM doesn't want to take responsibility for. Perhaps GM - Chevy division can use some of the "bailout" money to make better designs or perhaps produce features that actually do what they are supposed to do. Ughhhhhh!!!!!

There is one issue that can cause a loss of range, that is a defective antenna or ant ground., since the remote uses the radio antenna this can be checked by seeing if the radio FM reception is good

Myself and a co-worker both own 06 Impala's. He says he fixed his remote problem by removing the plastic panels left and right door posts of the windshield. Then moving the antenna from side to the other. Says it all works fine now.

2006 Chevrolet impala door lock actuators keep trying to unlock/lock doors and will not stop

If they do this when a keyFOB (remote) is in range then you have a bad keyFOB. Otherwise you could have a bad BCM (Body Control Module), BCM's need to be programed for options on the car in most cases as well as your keys and remotes.

The remote works to opent he doors but will not start the car a lock symbol appears on the dash when the push to start button is engaged. Please help

On my 06 STS to remote start first press lock button and the press end botton. Looks like almost a full circle.
This will work maybe twice. If it fails start car from inside car, shut down and then again use remote.
It works on mine up to about 50 foot range.

Do the locks work when using the interior lock buttons? If so, then you probably have to have the car dealer reprogram you remotes

07 Buick Lucerne seems like I have to be right next to the car for the the remote starter to work is there a certain spot I should be aiming for? It wont start my car from inside my house let alone any...

The battery may have gone weak in your remote. The gm system will never have as far of a range of and aftermarket system, so do not expect that.

Also There is an update kit for the chevy impala I do not know if this applies to the Lucerne but I would think it will seeing as they are the same platform car. This kit is to make the range better for the Key fob system. But like I say don't get your hopes up I'm not sure It applies to your car?
Good day to you.

2003 Chevy Impala. Changed the door remote & still not working

If your dealer is nice they may charge about a half hour of labor. Most charge about an hour. I would guess $50-$100.
