Question about 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Intermittent loss of Cam Sensor signal

Installed an engine in 2006 jeep cherokee laredo. engine is in good condition. Cam sensor sends signal and then loses signal. wiring not damaged, prior to engine ran, sensor good, all other related parts operational. Cant get cam and crank sync. in order for engine to run. I
have seen this problem before in chysler products. Engine is 3.7v6. Is there a possiblity that Ecm or Bcm need to get flashed in order for it to run?

If sensor was removed, it must be re-set with a scan tool. If wiring has continuity and it worked before the swap, likely re-setting is all you need.

How do i set the timing on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl?

Your timing is locked. (distributor is installed with no adjustment feature... on 02's you may not even have a distributor as it's replaced by the cam sensor) All timing and fuel mixture is controlled by the engine computer. Main inputs to the computer that influence changes are the throttle position sensor and MAP sensor but all sensor inputs are evaluated.

Daughter has a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the 4.7 SHO, her check engine came on, she took it to a local parts store and they hooked it up to a computoer and it showed code P1391, since we have...

this code stands for intermittent loss of camshaft or crankshaft position sensor signal, usually not in all cases its the crankshaft sensor. The other fixes are wiring and the computer, but like I said it is usually the sensor. Good Luck Tim

My 1996 grand cherokee laredo 4.0 misfires code scan by auto zone said p1391 loss at cam sensor or crankshaft sensor every thing electrical has been replaced

If you're saying that you already had the troublesome crank sensor replaced then maybe your electrical connections to the sensor is bad, somewhere, along the way to the ecu.

REMOVAL - 4.7L
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.7L V–8 engine is bolted to the front/top of the right cylinder head (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).

It is easier to remove/install sensor from under vehicle.

Raise and support vehicle.
Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Remove sensor mounting bolt (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Carefully twist sensor from cylinder head.
Check condition of sensor o-ring.
See picture for sensor location.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.
