My car is a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse 5spd 4cyl, People tell me its bad gas, but I've had the gas since friday 6/15/12. Yesterday it did the same thing, but a few time it didn't cut off, it kept idling up and down sitting at the light or stop sign.

Try some octane boost. if that dose not help it can be your Fuel pump, one of your spark plugs, or a coil pack. the idling up and down can also mean bad timing i would have your car looked at but you can try the above first

SOURCE: Car is not idling. Need to keep foot on the gas pedal to start.

Hi there,
there is a screw(situated in a hole) on the throttle body and this can be adjusted to increase the rpm. anticlock to raise the rpm.

SOURCE: engine will not idle will cut off as soon as foot is off peadle

possible solution, there is an idle circuit on your mass airflow sensor that allows air to bypass the throttle plate. if this little actuator is not working then no idle air will be able to get by the throttle plate which then tells the mass air flow sensor that there is no air moving which in turn tells the computer to stop pumping gas into the cylinders...which make your car shut off. hope this helps, cheers

2003 toyota highlander will not idle, must keep foot on the accelerator to keep engine running. AS soon as my foot is removed from the accelerator the engine cuts off.

The first place I would look is the IAC motor (idle air control) usaully on throttle body and possibly dirty throttle body and one last thing could possibley be EGR valve exaust gas recir. as if it stuck open it will lean out engine.

Jeep 2002 grand cherokee dies unless i keep foot on the gas...

The idle relearn needs reset. Keep your foot on the gas at about 900 rpm. Make it idle for about 5-6 minutes. Slowly ease up on the gas until it will idle on it's own, it might take a while. After you get it to idle, it might be idling real low, but on its own, Let it sit and idle until for 20 minutes. After that it should be back to normal. You will have to do this every time you have the battery unhooked for a while.

Engine wont idle unless you keep your foot on the gas pedal

First, try a new accelerator pump. They're less than $10 and easy to install. On the side of the carburator, near the linkage. It's simple a small rubber diaphragm.

My '98 Camry won't stay started. I start it and it just dies not matter how many times I try it. If I leave my foot on the gas it runs but at soon as my foot leaves the gas it dies.

What you have is a bad Idle Air Control ("I.A.C.") valve. This device admist a precise amount of air to keep the engine running at idle. This is a common issue. Get a new one from a dealer, and you will be up and running fine.

Jeep won't start

what generally happens with jeeps. is the idle air control valve loses memory of its idle position. try starting the vehicle with your foot slightly on the gas pedal. if it starts your going to have to keep it running by keeping your foot on the gas until it relearns its position and runs by itself. also there is a possibility that one of the modules locked up. if my first suggestion doesnt work then disconnect the negative batt cable for 30 seconds reconnect and then try to start it
