You can do it the old fashioned way. The timing belt has to be off to do this. The top belt gear has a hash mark by the nut holding it in. It has to be top center. Then you have to take the first spark plug out and stick a long screw driver inside there. You will need two people to do the next step. You then, Turn the bottom gear clockwise until you can feel the first head come all the way up. The second person holding the screw driver will know when its all the way up. Then you stop. You then put the Timing belt back on. You cannot move the gears at all when you put the belt back on.

Just put new window switch in drivers door Alfa gt jtd but Windows don't work do I need to reset something

I had a similar problem in my 03 Spider. The wiring loom for the window switch and motor comes out of the front pillar and in through the edge of the door. Every time the door opens and closes the wires in the loom flex. I had a broken wire in this part of the loom.

I have a 1988 Alfa spider with a non working instrument cluster. Is it true that only the exact same year and month produced cluster will work in an 88?

First why is your cluster dead? If it's one of the circuits, it can probably be fixed. Since you live in CO there are plenty of places around Boulder and Ft Collins who can repair circuits.

So so without knowing more I'd need to trouble shoot why the entire cluster is dead.

Yes harnesses can can be modified. If your car has the mouse type belts you're going to need to trace the circuit that powers the mouse. All things being equal, the '87 and '89 wiring should be similar except for the mouse part. You'll need wiring diagrams for your car and the donor cluster. You can get copies at Alfa BB. You'll need your connectors off your old cluster.

Again in these are electronic circuits and can likely be modified by computer repair or electronic circuit repair shops.

Good luck. Personally I hate the automatic belts.

Is there chain on alfa 156 2.0 liter?

If you are talking about a timing chain I think the answer could be no. I have a 2003 Spider 2L JTS which is the same engine as the 2003 156. Before that they had the 2L Twinspark and both have timing belts which need to be replace regularly along with the pulleys and idlers. Much earlier twinspark engines have a timing chain. Have a look at www.Alfa 156.net. Cheers. Brian.

How hard is it to change a head gasket in a 79 alfa spider 2.0 engine

Any engine work like this is complicated. You must strip all the accessories from the engine like the carb, intake and exhaust manifolds ... there is nothing easy about this taks though it is simple to say what to do. This is not a repair for a casual back yard mechanic.

The better question might be why does the head gasket need to be replaced. What ever caused the problem will also have to be addressed.

My wife's 2002 Alpha Spider 2.0 TS has intermittent starting problems due to the key coded engine immobilizer. When this occurs, she leaves the car for 15-20 minutes and usually it will start. I have...

hey i have done a bit of work with alfa's the problem is if the key malfunctions it will register a code in the computer and even if you fix the key it will not work properly, the best thing you can do is find a dealer with a alfa scan tool and they will reprogram the key... its a quick job that can ONLY be done on an alfa tool and beware you may need a new key, sometimes they just go .

I have a 2001 Alfa Romeo Spider. After running

There is a fine mesh screen sock on the pickup tube in the gas tank, replace that. It will collapse and starve the fuel pump, but not all the time.
