Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

1999 GMC Jimmy won't start.

My Jimmy starts one day then won't start other days.

I cannot hear the Fuel Pump charge the system when I turn the key.

I have found the Fuel Pump fuse but I cannot find out how to check it if it is good or bad.

The next step would be to check the Fuel Pump Relay.

Is there a way that I could check and change my Fuel Pump Relay easily without going to the garage?

Please help!! i have a remote starter and factory alarm also. i turn the key to on the pump is not heard and my rear brake light also turns on with pump niether do

Swapping relays is the easiest way to check. I'm not sure what is meant by "the correct way" as stated above. A DVOM is used to check the resistance, such as recommended on a Mitsubishi; it should be between 40 and 120 Ohms bteween partular pins and over 10,000 on others. GMs can be commanded with a scan tool to run, but isn't an effective way to check it. They recommend a jumper and test light procedure. Therfore, " the correct way" depends on what you have, and you would need to BClear.

    go through this link

    http://www.vanagonparts.com/fuel_pump_re...

It is a small gray or black box with 5 wires connected. The wires are
orange (hot when key is on), red (test wire for fuel pump), black/white
(ground), green (control from ECM), and grey (to fuel pump). Are you
sure you need a new relay? One way to test is to use an OHM meter to
check for resistance between the E and C connectors inside the relay.
There should be very little resistance between these connectors.

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

1999 gmc 4.3l won't start

P0147 Heater circuit malfunction bank 1 sensor 3
P0452 Evap spressure system low.
P1345 This is the main problem your solution is a whole new distributor, dont bother trying to retartd or advance the timing it wont start and if you do get it to start it will just sputter, you going to have to remove the camshaft and install a new one.

My '97 GMC Jimmy was running fine one day and then wouldn't start the next. The battery is fully charged, the engine turns over when the ignition key is turned, but it just won't catch....

TURN THE KEY SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION ,WITH THE GAS LID DOOR OPEN DO YOU HEAR THE HUMM OR WHINE OF THE FUEL PUMP,YOU MAY HAVE TO GET A 2 PERSON SO THAT YOU CAN PUT YOUR EAR RIGHT UP TO THE FUEL DOOR TO HEAR THE HUM,IF THEIRS NO HUM ITS NOT GOING TO START.THE TANK THEN MUST BE REMOVED AND A NEW 250$ FUEL PUMP WILL NEED TO BE INSTALLED.THE PUMPS ARE ALSO DIFFERENT BETWEEN 2DR AND 4DR. EBAY HAS CHEEP PUMPS 100 OR LESS.

Car doesn't start somedays? No fuel pump sound

You might have a bad connection on the fuel pump. Pull the fuel pump and check the wire connections.

We own a 2000 GMC Jimmy, and it won't start. It got repoed in January or Feb and we got it back with a GPS locater on it. Ever since the car lot put the locater on it, it kind of run weird after that. Now...

If the vehicle doesnt turn over make sure the battery is fully charged. If charged and still doesnt turn,(if the vehicle has a security system) check and make sure the starter kill feature is disabled (check vallet switch). If it cranks and doesnt start to check the fuel pump you can have someone turn the key to the on position while you put your ear close to the fuel tank to see if you can hear the pump (you should hear a buzzing sound for 5seconds after the key is turned to the on position). This is a tuff call. You need to find out what the lot did when they put the GPS on the vehicle

99 gmc jimmy, been running okay till a few days ago. Drove it to eat, came back out and it won't start. Battery okay. Tries to turn over, but won't. Acts like out of gas, but half a tank.

Listen for the fuel pump prime cycle.
Have someone listen back by the gas tank....turn the key after it has been off for at least 10 seconds to run position....you should hear a WHIRRRR for about a second or 2.
If it is silent....you may need a fuel pump.
Next give it a shot of starter fluid...if it starts on that...you indeed have a fuel problem. No start....no spark.
If no start and you did hear a pump cycle....then it's most likely a no spark problem.......a common cause is the crank sensor and/or ignition module.

When I start my 1999 GMC JIMMY sometimes it starts right up. Sometimes its as if it does not get enough fuel then it starts. I have been told it could be the fuel pump or the fuel injection regulator....

i been having fuel injection troubles myself and seems to me your problem may be your fuel injection pressure regulator, before starting when you turn the key so your dash lights show up and at that same time you should also hear your fuel pump motor spinning which means that its working and sending fuel through so you may have a fault with your regulator,,hope that helps, goodluck.

1999 GMC Jimmy won't start.

firstly where is fuel pump relay as i have never seen a GMC jimmy sorry about that but have you ever seen a foden ?? well the first thing is to check the fuse,if fuse is ok which can be checked by looking at it as its transparent or a piece of wire with a light bulb .across the battery.to find the relay is easy if you dont know where it is,When this piece of americana decides to work just turn ignition on and listen for the click of relay ,then when it doesnt start listen for click again or rather an absence of a click, sounds more like a dodgy pump in the tank or the connections going to it.when it wont start try thumping the fuel tank with the ignition on and if it is a sticky pump you might hear it start then at least you will know where the fault is.Another fault that i have come across with relays is that where the relay is passing a heavy load then its possibe for the contacts to burn inside the relay. When this happens then if it is possible to seperate the relay cover and clean the contacts with a points file (remember them ) or a piece of fine emery paper if the cover breaks taking it apart then use a bit of black insulating tape to repair the cover.Thats assuming the pump is in the tank and not bolted to the chassis near the fuel tank but that design with external pump i havent seen on a europeon car for nearly 20yrs .
