1992 chevy suburban oil

My chevy is knocking and the oil hand shows that there is no oil. I put 7 qts. of 5w-30 in the engine. I need to know if thats the right knid of oil and how many quarts does it usually require if the engine is empty? I believe I may have a leak somewhere. But I just want to know basically about the oil.

Do you know how to check the oil? With the engine off, open the hood locate the dipstick, usually yellow in color and often says oil on it, pull it out, wipe it off, put it back in, pull it out adn look at the end, it will have an area that is checkered, if the oil level is between these marks, it is in a good operating range, if it is overfull you should have some drained out, if it is not full add 1 qt at a time until it is in the checkered area. if the engine is knocking, you should not run it have it towed to a qualified service station. 5 w 30 is fine and 5.5 top 6 qts should be plenty. hope this helps.

Engine Oil not the trans right?
Should be 4.5 qts Capacity
The manual calls for 5w-30 but you can use 10w-30 if you have high miles and issues with oil leaking. Of course once you fill it, check your oil dipstick to make sure you have enough.

2003 Chevy Trailblazer V-6 4WD. I just got the oil changed. I think I made a mistake and told them to put in 10w-30 instead of the 5w-30 that the vehicle was used to. Since then, my SUV has been sputtering...

CHECK YOUR OIL DIP STICK MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH OIL IN THE CRANKCASE.YOUR ENGINE CALL FOR 7 QUARTS OF OIL. IF YOU HAVE THE INLINE 6 CYLINDER.CHECK OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK.YOU SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK.AND NOT ON THE LOW MARK.IF SO YOU NEED ADD LITTLE MORE OIL TO GET TO THE FULL MARK.YOU CAN USE 10W 30 FOR SPRING AND SUMMER WEATHER. 5W 30 FOR COLD WEATHER COLD CLIMATE.I RUN 10W 30 YEAR ROUND IN ALL MY NEW CHEVY AND OLDSMOBILE VECHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS.IF OIL LEVEL CORRECT YOU COULD HAVE FUEL PROBLEMS.COULD HAVE STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER, BAD GAS,

I Don't know what type of oil to put in my 1992 honda accord

This is right from the owner's manual: Recommended Engine Oil: API Premium grade 5W-20 detergent oil . 5W-20 oil is formulated for yearround protection of your Honda, to improve cold weather starting, and to help your engine use less fuel. If 5W-20 oil is not available, a 5W-30 oil may be used. However, it should be replaced with 5W-20 at the next oil change. ---------- for more help in how to change oil and oil filter in your Honda car please click the link below. https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/om/AC0202/AC0202O00250A.pdf Thanks. 2003 suburban 2500 8.1 liter oil calls for 5w 30 Ive been told to use heavier oil as it gets older? What do you recomend?

Follow the recommendations in the owner's manual or service manual - usually 10w-40 for summer and 5w-30 for winter roughly. Oil that is too viscous makes the engine work harder than necessary. If you want to provide extra "cushion" for tired engine parts, add a bottle of STP oil treatment. This stuff is the best thing for an older engine, as it takes up some of the gap between slightly sloppy tolerances, and it makes the oil adhere to engine parts much better than oil alone. Highly recommended, and doesn't change the oil viscosity characteristics significantly (even though it looks like it would!).
