Question about 1992 Chevrolet Suburban
My chevy is knocking and the oil hand shows that there is no oil. I put 7 qts. of 5w-30 in the engine. I need to know if thats the right knid of oil and how many quarts does it usually require if the engine is empty? I believe I may have a leak somewhere. But I just want to know basically about the oil.
Do you know how to check the oil? With the engine off, open the hood locate the dipstick, usually yellow in color and often says oil on it, pull it out, wipe it off, put it back in, pull it out adn look at the end, it will have an area that is checkered, if the oil level is between these marks, it is in a good operating range, if it is overfull you should have some drained out, if it is not full add 1 qt at a time until it is in the checkered area. if the engine is knocking, you should not run it have it towed to a qualified service station. 5 w 30 is fine and 5.5 top 6 qts should be plenty. hope this helps.
