About Oils. Some are "blends" some are straight-vs-detergent. Most people or experts cannot tell use what 5w30, or 10w40 means. Most every small engine manufacturer, car maker, even imported chinese engine makers have a "maintenance schedule" which lists types of oils to be used & in what tempatures. 5w30= 5 thousandths of clearance of oil protection when hot between surfaces, 30 thousandths, when cold. 10w40= 10 thousandths oil clearance when hot, between surfaces, 40 thousandths cold. ON LAWNMOWER, or "air cooled" engines, they are cooled by air. They are hot, (no radiator system). I prefer SAE30, a straight oil, to always give protection

10w30 is usually pretty safe but if your going to be in those temperatures continually, I'd at least go to 10w40. Not knowing the year or engine, I'd say check your owners manual & it should show you a chart for approved oil in different temperatures.

What year is the truck, if it is middle 90's up yes this is the correct oil, any heavier can cause engine bearing damage.

ENGINE OIL

You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products.
"Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.

Do I put 5w-30 in my 2008 sierra gmc?

5w 30 is a common GM recommended oil - it has a wider ambient temperature range than (for example) 10w 30. The recommended grade is sometimes moulded into the oil filler cap that fits into the valve cover.

Oil capacity for a 1994 GMC Jimmy SLE

this engine takes about 5 quarts with filter after a hot drain, add 4 quarts and then run and top off, remember to fill the oil filter up before installing to prevent "dry" start up, u can use 5W-30 or 10W-30, either will work, in summer or hot climates use 10W-30, never use a heavier oil.
