Yes, it the instrument cluster in a 2001 mitsubishi lancer CE coupe. I'll be driving and all of a sudden it will just turn off, the speedo, tacho, heat, fuel will just drop to 0 and the digital speedometer numbers will shut off.,

and on hot days it wont even turn on.

But I can still drive the car as normal.

Is this an easy problem to fix myself? Or would I need to go to an electrical auto mechanic?

The problem is related to the dash computer that runs the display, electronics of all kinds are affected by heat, you can have this dash repaired through the dealer, or get an exchange assemby. Yes it does not affect the operation of the car.

You can pull the cluster out yourself I am sure, but it will have to go to a factory repair center to be fixed, do you have a company called speedotach near you?

Intrument cluster

If all gauges cut off, its is likely a power supply problem not the cluster. Try wiggling the rear connector, unplug and re-plug to "wipe" the connections.

I had the same problem. I had to check the fuses in the engine compartment, I then had to replace two 15 amp fuses, after I replaced the fuses the problem was gone.

A poor connection at the self docking connections of the cluster. Remove the trim across the top of the intrument panel. Remove the screws at the top of the cluster trim and remove the trim. Remove the cluster screws and cluster. Apply dielectric grease to the self docking connectors of the cluster and reinstall. This should take care of it.

If everything keeps going like that then it sounds like its a problem with the onboard computer. The computer controls all the guages and would explain why they all fail at the same time.
