Dodge stratus check engine light

I put half a tank of gas in my car yesterday morning and just after I started down the road, my check engine light came on. I'm thinking maybe I didn't have the gas cap on all the way?? The light is still on but the cars drives fine. How do I reset the check engine light?

I went to Advance Auto today and got the computer read. It came back with the code P0441 Evap Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault. Any idea what this means?

Thanks for the help! I'm going to see if Advance Auto will reset it and see what happens.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few seconds, unless you have some anti-theft system on your vehicle, that may get messed up by the disconnect. If you do, then I;d wait it out, I think it's about 50 starts & it should disappear on it's own, if that doesn't work, zip in to dealer & see what they'd charge to reset it for you.

The only way to reset a Check engine light on a car that is newer than a 1996 model is to use a ODB II code reader or to take it to a repair shop and read the codes that have been set by the computer in your car. Most likely the code has nothing to do with gas cap being on all the way (but it might) but the chances of that are slim. After you get the code, please come back and tell me what code(s) are set and I can help you figure out what the problem might be.

Good Luck!

P0441 Evap Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault could mean that you were right about the gas cap being loose or it could be a leak with any of the vacuum lines that go between the fuel tank and the charcole vent filter. I had this code on a 2000 Dodge Dakota and a new gas cap solved my problems. The system has a pump involved in it and when you first start the car it pressurises the evap system to ensure that no fumes from the fuel escape to the outside air, if this pressure check does not pass, it sets the P0441 code. The seal on the gas cap not providing a good seal could cause this problem.

    Hope that helps.

    Good Luck!

You need to check fuel pressure carefully. This happens when tank is so full of dirt that the pump screen gets clogged. After sitting down several minutes, some of the dirt settles and the car can be restarted, but happens again. Refrain from starting to change every sensor without knowing what is the real cause, because you could be thowing money and not fixing it. Aldo check pressure regulator is functioning correctly. You need to get the engine trouble codes by performing the "keydance" or using a code reader, then start checking fuel pressure at pump and regulator. Best luck. Amclaussen.

My 1999 4 door dodge stratus will not start or turn over this morning. worked fine yesterday. the lights and window power still work. the car was a little low on gas though.

This sounds like a bad starter, the starter is what cranks the motor and if the battery is good then i would say the starter went bad, if you tap on it it may start but the starter would need replacing, a quick test with a test light would be to have someone hold the key in the crank postion while you check the wires on the back of the starter for power, the big cable wire should have power at all times the small wire should have power when the key is in the crank spot, if theres power on the small wire then starter is bad, hope this helps, disregaurd the switch,sorry3371223.jpg14d5af0.jpg

I'm getting the engine light coming every so often. It seems that after I fill the tank and get down around 3/4 tank, The message I'm getting is "EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault". PO441 and...

I have a 2004 dodge stratus 2.4 dual overhead cam. When driving down the road, bell goes off, check engine light comes on, and it's like I'm driving on limp mode, when going over 2000 rpm's, there's a severe stutter. After getting code for light it points to cam shaft sensor, which i changed. I also changed crank shaft sensor. After all of this was done, drove great for about 30 miles and the same thing happened all over again. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

try some STP gas treatment or dry gas in the gas tank and make sure there is at least a half a tank of gas when adding and make sure that the battery is fully charged

you probably ran it to low and sucked some trash out of the tank. try changing the fuel filter or put some gas in it because the little fuel you had in it probably evaporated over night.
