The heat shield protects the floor board of the car from getting to hot, and it
willnot hurt a thing if you remove it.

What makes catalyatic converter get red hot

THe cat converter was added to the exhaust system by vehicle manufacturers to cut the amount of exhaust pollutants coming out of the engine. To do its work it uses rare metals that act as catylists to burn off the particulates and gasses and turn them into carbon dioxide, nitrouus oxide and other less dangerous gasses than the original. In the process there is alot of heat given off, especially if the gas is contaminated with other additives. The cat converter always runs hot or it doesn't do its job.

How at fix a sqeaky muffler

if you stilll have heat sheilds around the exhaust system then check then for looseness as these will cause a squeak or rattle noise.you can try to tighten the sheilds or remove them.their purpose is to help keep the exhaust cool.if its a small pin hole in the exhaust it can cause a sound like you have.you will have to find the hole and if the system is not rotted weld the hole closed.if the system is no good then replace the bad part.if the noise is from the inside the muffler you can try to dent the muffler were you here the noise to try to stop it or just replace the muffler.

My 2005 Nissan Morano S makes a rattling noise when accelerating. More so after the car has been sitting. Less after I driven awhile.Taken it in 3 times and no one is able to diagnose.

Hello Lisa,
Rattles are always a fun thing to chase after. The first thing that comes to mind with a rattle under acceleration would be a heat sheild. Over time, heat shields which protect the under body of the car from exhaust heat come loose. Might want to have an exhaust shop take a look at it for you. I have heard of weak tack welds located on the heat sheilds by the catalytic converter. So you can ask an exhaust shop to take a look.

Although if you are one to get down under the car and a bit dirty check it out on your own. You might be able to check without putting the truck on a jack stands or a lift. Basically you will want to ensure the car is cold. If the car has not sit for a little while, I would not recommend touching the exhaust. YOU WILL get burned. :) Once your sure its cold and want to squeeze under the truck you can follow the exhaust tips all the way up to the catalytic converters. See pic below(number 16 is the heat shield). You will see the tin around them and be able to shake them a bit. If you hear your rattle there is your problem. If not check out the other heat shields.

The bearing that the slinder is a loose press fit into the hub. If you have one try useing a slide hammer you will have to adapt it backer plate . It will pul out it just needs some perswation. Idon't know why there is not a standard tool on the market for this purpose because a lot of vehicles have this same issue but the bearing is holding it into the hub

How to replace starter motor on 04 kia sedona

Disconnect the positive battery terminal. You'll need to remove the 3 bolts holding on the heat sheild to the starter, also remove the lower heat sheild on the exhaust manifold. You'll need diconnect to 2 wires attached to the starter and unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter to the transmission/engine.

Loose heat shield

Most likely it's a heat sheild on the converter, maybe the muffler. 1 on top and 1 on the bottom. The heat sheild is welded to the converter, over time they rust away, around the welds. You can use a large diameter worm gear clamp to keep the heat sheild from rattling. The sheilds are in place so if you drive over grass, the heat from the converter won't ignite the grass.

2001 mitsubishi montero sport check engine codes showing catylistic converter problem

Most like the converter is bad, Often, over time the material inside the converter breaks apart and will clog up the flow of exhaust. Replacement of the converter is needed.
