Question about 2008 Toyota Yaris Sedan

1 Answer

Intermittent Starting Problem

I have a 2008 Yaris with about 30,000 Km on it.
3 times in the last 3 months it wouldn't start.
It turned over good but wouldn't fire.
Wait 5 minutes and try again it starts normally.
I mentioned this to the dealer at the last maintenance but he had not heard of this.

If the problem was the fuel pump wouldn't it happen more than once a month?
The service manager said it sounded like it could be a cold start injector but it didn't show upon the diagnostic computer.

Thanks emissionwiz is there any way to check if it is the fuel pump short of replacing it?

I have the exact same problem, I'm at 19,000 miles in my 2007 Yaris. I have a feeling that it is the fuel pump because I believe the it can be more intermittent than the spark. I plan on taking the car in soon. Good Luck to us all

I bought an 08 yaris in March of 08, brand new off the lot and experienced this problem within the first month. It has probably happened 5 times since I purchased it.

You have to determine if the problem is loss of fuel press or a los of ignition spark when the no start occurs, I suspect the fuel pump.

I have 60K miles. When is recommended transmission fluid change?

It should be done between 30,000 to 60,000 miles. 30,000 miles if you do lots of stop and go traffic like in rush hour and up to 60,000 miles if your out on the highway most of the time. (less gear change) As long as you service your transmission on a regular schedule, it should last you the life of the car. $100.00 service every 3 years is a good investment since a transmission replacement is around $2,300. Hope this helps and good luck.

Car is covered by a 3 year warranty, return to supplying dealer before attempting any fixes yourself. Power steering is electric on these cars, I'm guessing it's something simple like the battery.

I feel like hot air coming from underneath the dash board

Why are you asking this here? Surely you have warranty on a 2008. Take it to the dealer and make your concerns known.

08 yaris sedan won't start

Hello. I will try to provide assistance to you, with the hope that you will give me a FixYa rating for my advice.

First, as a Toyota Service Manager, I can ASSURE you that there is NO "minimum mileage" before a dealer will look at it. That is a direct VIOLATION of the Direct Agreement between Toyota and the dealer body.

Second, what I would do is call this number : 1-880-331-4331

That is the Toyota Customer Experience Center. Call them, explain your situation and the dealership that is refusing service, and the CEC will get in touch with that dealer, and inform them that they HAVE to look at your car. After you call, expect a call from the Customer Relations Manager at the dealership in question, within 3 business days after your call to the CEC.

I hope that the dealership gets your car fixed up for you.
Please feel free to respond back, if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thnaks for choosing FixYa fore assistance!
