Question about 2004 Toyota Tundra

2004 toyota tudra quad cab 4x4. headlights staying on.

Problem with headlights staying on, occasionally running lights will be on as well. With headlight switch off and ignition switch off I will come home and lights won't shut off ( seem a little dimmer like daytime running lights) I will also wake up to lights being on. The headlamp relay (under hood) will be buzzing when this happens. When I pull relay out of socket headlamps will go out but if the running lights are affected they stay on. Turning ignition switch off and on usually gets rid of the running light problem. I unplugged the headlight switch on the steering consule and the headlights go out but headlamp relay is still buzzing. I don't think its a short because it happens when vehicle hasn't moved. Can you help. Thanks Robert.

You could have a bad DAY/NIGHT sensor.

Before the problems started and it worked fine, did it have auto lights that come on when its dark?

If so, then the sensor could be bad and need replacing or the ECM ( electronic control module ) could be going bad and acting up.

Now, when it does this, if you just mess with the lights control switch like when your driving and turn them on, does it flicker or act crazy when uyou touch it or turn it onor off?

If so, then that is the problem and you need to have it replaced.

If you turn all the lights on while its running and test the brake lights and turn signal, do they all work or are some burnt out?

usually on new vehicles and some older ones, if a turn signal light goes out, it will trip the relay and it will blink really fast as a way to tell you to replace the bulb, this is becasue you obviously cant see its bad while your driving.

You can try also to switch the relay with another one that looks exactly like it and has the same numbers on the top. If its a bad relay, then when you switch it with the good one, the problems will go away. Switch them back and go buy a new one from the auto parts store.

Try it out and let me know. I worked at Oreillys auto parts for a while and had alot of people come in with fast blinking signal lights all freaked out and the solution was to replace a $2 bulb.

I also have alot of personal experience with car repairs as i owned a 99' Alero. nuff said

Some models were in the infancy of using daytime running lights back then...they stay off until after starting by design to assist the starting power...:)

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad cab SLT 4x4 that won't start. The engine will turn over but, as soon as I release the key, it shuts off. The ABS and BRAKE dash lights stay on.

It could be a cam or crank sensor. Have someone plug a OBD II reader in and pull all the codes.
That will give you some idea.
Please let me know what you find.
