Put the key into your ignition and turn it 2 clicks forward to the "run" position but don't start the engine. wait a few seconds until all lights are cleared, oil light should still be present. Now fully depress and release accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
If CHANGE ENGINE OIL lamp flashes it means system has reset itself
If your security light is blinking.Turn key to on position(2 clicks) wait for 10 minutes security light should stop blinking.Turn key to off position. Turn key forward 2 clicks wait for 5 seconds and try to restart the car.
These vehicles have a built in antitheft system. When switching the ignition you interrupt this system.
You will need to do a system relearn after the new ignition is installed. It will not start until the new ignition is installed and relearned.
Step one. Put key in ignition, turn forward 2 clicks until right before it should start. Keep like that for ten minutes, NO LESS.
Step two. After the ten minutes, turn key back to off position for 5 seconds.
You need to do steps 1 & 2 a total of three times in a row without trying to start the car in between. The whole process should take roughly 30 minutes. After the last time waiting 5 seconds in off position, turn key forward and attempt to start the vehicle. Remember no less than ten minutes when forward, maybe do ten minutes and 15 seconds to be sure, some people even do 11 minutes.
your key may need to be re-programed to the car --- if you have both original keys then you should be able to flip both of them through the inginion and then the truck should start just fine,, but if one of the keys is a ' clone key ' then you are going to need to go to a automotive locksmith and have the keys and computer re-programed. do not go to the dealer -- they will charge you a lot more than the locksmith will. but try and flip the keys through first,, start with one key, put it in the ignition turn the key to the on position ( NOT start position ) -- wait a few seconds,, then put the next key in ( to the on position ) and wait a few seconds,, then got back to the first key and turn to the on position,, wait a few more seconds and the light should go out --- start the truck. again, you may need your trucks computer re-programmed and since you have the keys the cost will be cheaper than if you had no keys.
System operation System arms 5 seconds after switching ignition OFF. Switch ignition ON. Ensure clock LED illuminates for 3-5 seconds. If LED flashes rapidly at regular intervals for approximately 1 minute, then flashes at irregular intervals: Key code not recognised. Remove key and try again. Programming When System malfunction: LED illuminates for 1 minute, then flashes at irregular intervals. Key(s) added or replaced. NOTE: Replacement keys MUST have blue mark. Keys with red mark are NOT compatible with this system. How NOTE: Programming method using vehicle keys can be deactivated using diagnostic equipment. Obtain 2 programmed keys (A and B). Insert key A into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to position II. Wait 1 second. Switch ignition OFF. Remove key A. Insert key B into ignition switch within 5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to position II. Wait 1 second. Switch ignition OFF. Remove key B. Within 10 seconds: Insert key to be programmed into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to position II. Wait 4 seconds. Switch ignition OFF. Wait 5 seconds. Start engine. If engine does not start and clock LED flashes: Switch ignition ON. Wait at least 20 seconds. Switch ignition OFF. Repeat programming procedure. Repeat above procedure to program remaining keys. Keys can also be programmed using diagnostic equipment
I am having the same problem. did you figure out what was wrong with yours. I have tested all of the wires in the harness under the dash, they r fine. I pulled off the starter and had it tested; O'rilies said it was fine. It is a 5 speed, and I can push start the car just fine any time. Like yours, some days my car starts, some days it doesn't. The days it starts, it runs fine with no problems starting or running. the problem is the days that it wont start.
THIS SYSTEM REQUIRES A REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE AFTER COMPONENT REPLACEMENT. THERE IS A MANUAL RELEARN YOU CAN TRY BEFORE HAVING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPROGRAMMING. THE RELEARN IS AS FOLLOWS: DIS-CONNECT BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES. RECONNECT BATTERY,TURN KEY ON BUT DO NOT START!! WAIT APPROX. 20 MINUTES OR WAIT UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OFF. TURN KEY TO OFF FOR 5 SECONDS THEN ATTEMPT TO START. IF IT STILL WONT START LEAVE KEY IN RUN POSITION FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OUT THEN ATTEMPT START AGAIN. MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED!!! IF THIS DOESNT WORK IT WILL HAVE TO GO TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPROGRAMMING WITH TECH 2 SCANNER.
