Question about 2001 Pontiac Aztek

1 Answer

Fuel gauge in 2001 Aztek 140k miles doesn't work.

Our fule gauge in our beloved Aztek can read as full or empty. Never in between. The gauge will drop to empty and fuel light comes on typically after car has idled for a bit.

Same problem! I checked the fuel tank sensor assy. wiring harness and found a corroded ground connection, Cleaned and the problem went away. As a side note, my Aztec was previously owned by people who lived on the ocean coastline which made "saltwater" the suspected cause.

i bought my 01 aztek used last year, and my fuel guage hasn't worked yet. I use the digital one that in with the HUD, and that is close. Mine normally reads full, unless my car has been idleing for a while.

i bought my aztek used with 171000 miles about a year ago. The fuel gauge has not worked yet, it reads full most of the time, unless i let it idle for about 5 mins, then it drops and says my tank is empty. I need to figure out how to fix this, especially since i am leaving for college 4.5 hours away next fall.

where did you find the ground that was corroded for the fuel assy. thing? Thanks

My 2001 Aztek does the same thing. Gets really annoying after a few stops when traveling long distances. I have to use my fuel usage to make sure how much I have used. Mine has 123741 miles on it. It did have 121000 when I bought it but I drove to Florida.

What can be done to fix the issue?

My fuel gauge read full or empty. No in between readings. I was told the repair was the BDU and would cost over $900? This sounds like I'm getting ripped off...again. I also paid out $750 2 years ago to have the faulty AC unit design fixed. Now my AC is out again. What a great engineering achivement this POS is!

Hi, Sounds like it has a bad fuel gauge sender, location is in the fuel tank.

The float is sinking. This could be from alcohol used in gasoline.

Repair is a major job involving dropping the fuel tank, a messy and dirty and dangerous job. It will take you at least one full Saturday to do this job if everything goes right and you have the proper parts. My free advice to you is to fill your tank every 200 miles and forget about the fuel gauge.

2004 Pontic Aztek gas gauge

probably you got a problem with your fuel gauge sender that goes inside in the fuel tank, that sender is only a coil that works together with a fuel lever,if you want to save some money buy it separate from the fuel pump.

My 2001 aztek has a fuel guage malfunction most of the time it is stuck on full but the digital read out shows that i have used 7 gallons can this be the bcm or just a censor on the fuel pump

It is most likely the sending unit in the gas tank, this senses the amount of fuel in the tank and relays that info to the gauges and computer.

Fuel gauge peggs out

Mostly likely you have a tank mounted fuel gauge. If your vehicle is pointing down hill the guage goes up or down. It is usually the fuel level in the tank that makes the float go up to tell you how full the tank is, if fuel is sloshing around then level fluctuates. I would say that if it stabilizes on level ground and at a stop, and you can get a stable fuel reading then this is more of an annoyance than a problem. If you can get an accurate reading and you do not run out of fuel you may want to leave this one alone, you will have to drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel float on top of the gas tank which can be labor intensive as well as expensive.
