I have a similar problem, my 97 Jimmy will start when the dash board ligths go on when opening the ignition switch. but sometimes the lights won't go on and it won't start, plus if it starts sometimes it will give me the service engine soon light, and the sunroof won't work.(it is an after market sunroof). when the srvice engine soon light is on the tranny feels power less at take off.

@tapia777 i have almost exactly the same problem as you only i dont have a sun roof, my car recently wouldnt start and the fuel pump had been acting up for a while and was old (so i thought). so we had to drop the tank and change the dang pump, but when we hooked everything back up the car will only very rarely start when we try it, but it always turns over... the only things we noticed is that the panel lights dont turn on and there is no sound for the fuel pump, this is when the key is on the ON position of course not START. but like i said it still starts but very rarely, and when that happens the panel lights go on and can hear the fuel pump start up..... so.... yeah, wuts up with this?

Do you mean the engine will not crank over with the starter, or does it crank and not start? Does t make any noise when you try to crank the engine over?

I had the very same problem with my 97' jimmy. I finally replace the ignition wiring harness. That controls the electrical going to the dash. Blinkers, gauges, fuel pump, I also replaced the Key switch just in case. Started right up all gauges work, blinkers everything.

I did exactly what you said earlier and it worked GREAT but forgot to post it... yeah do this and it should work.... my friend and I were looking around the ignition switch area tightening things up that looked lose and the car started to turn over and the key wasn't even in it lol, i guess if a thief were to "hotwire" a car, this is how he would do it xD ...so wow i learned something useful from this experience hahah.

turn the igntion on, don't start, let it set for ten minutes Turn it off for 5 seconds then try to start it. If it lost memory for some reason and doesn't start . then do this three times , after the third time start it. that is the relearn procedure. Have a charger on it for the 30 minute relearn. 1999 GMC yukon will not start after putting a battery in turns over I think it has something to do with the securty system

The relearn procedure for GM is turn the key on (don't try to start) leave it on for ten minutes, turn it off for five seconds. do this three times, after the third time of turning it off for five seconds try to start it. It is best to have it on a charger as the battery will drain, if it gets down below five volts you have to start over.

just had simular prob.. check front diff for fluids, check actuator, and also there is a switch on the top of your transfer case . all else fails, have vehi. on jack stands (all 4 tires off the ground) start, hold brake, push button, and have someone under to watch cable ect. (""do not put in gear or give gas while doing this"")
