There is a switch on your power steering, that is called a power steering angle switch, that is probably shorted out.

  • Look at the power steering line, find the switch, and unplug it. See if the problem goes away, if it does replace the switch.

Why is steering wheel hard to turn only when parking car

You seem to have power steering system issue. Only a mechanic should be hired to safely identify. Could be any part of the system from inexpensive fluids to electrical. Anticipate the solution might involve more labor and parts than not at this point. These 'things' start to happen after a decade, you didn't mention miles or storage (out or in). We keep ours until approx 150k or 12 years on avg and always the same issues start to happen, they add up as we fix at first. Have learned it's about time for a new one after 10/11. The 2014 EX is a fantastic model we hope to have for a long run. Paid less for the EX than a basic. Why? Today most would buy an Acura instead of an EX, so they don't move off the lot and you can easily work deals, ours cost 4k less than the LX in fact, came fully loaded with all options but the larger engine. Well worth it. We refused to buy a model without Sirius, only the EX had it. Use this....

My 2001 V70 XC steering is locked and I cannot turn the Key.I have tried cranking on the wheel but does not seem to free up.

My wife had this problem twice - for two different reasons, as it turned out. The first time, the car was not really in park. The AAA mechanic shifted the car to neutral then through all the gears a couple times, then back to park and made sure it set firmly. The key turned fine after that. The second time it was because the key was worn. We used our backup ignition key (which is much less-frequently used and thus much less worn) to turn the ignition switch and release the wheel. Hope this helps. Good luck!

the wires are touching inside the horn you must take it apart and put some electrical tape to the wires that are touching and your problem should be fixed.

WHY DO I HEAR A POPPING NOISE WHEN I TURN STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT ON H2 2003 HUMMER

This is probably due to worn ball joints. If you hear it especially when turning into a parking spot or at a standstill, this is usually worn ball joints. Let me know what else I can do for you.

Steering wheel getting locked up

I think it is a common problem that while the power steering relaxes and the tyres find a comfortable spot to sit on the road, after you've parked, the steering mechanism can push against the steering lock in the ignition switch. Usually the steering wheel needs a bit of a jiggle while you turn the key. If you were to engage park brake, release foot brake and let go of steering wheel before turning off ignition, it may settle better for you.

1992 Lincoln continental steering problem

your inner tie rod end either broke at the ball joint or it was not installed properly and came loose from the steering rack. Either way there should have been an issue with the steering prior to the popping noise. If there is power steering fluid there had to be damage to the rack and pinion unit and it will have to be replaced.

Take it to a real mechanic. The last guy must have been a parts re-placer and messed up other components.
