Engine stop, don't know why?

Hello, I have a 1992 Mazda Protege DX 4 door automatic. Last night when I was exiting off the freeway, then making a left turn over a bridge. Not even getting on top of the bridge but while making left and going up. My engine just chokes for a sec. and die on the middle going up. I tries many time to started up again, I heard the engine turn but won't start. but didn't work. all my dash light is on and no engine light is on. everything work, just that the engine won't start. After many time of trying to get the engine started, I started to see my battery going out, I guess is due to me keep on starting the engine. Then i take my key out and waited around 20min. I started trying to start the engine again, and this time it work. right away I pull it on Drive and park my car in a empty parking lot, scary to drive home. I can't think of anything is going on. I think my fuel pump is fine since it started up at the end. Fuse, i don't know anything about engine fuse or stuff. Battery is fine i guess. Altnerator, I don't know. Before, few month ago, this car has over heat problem which cause engine to die. Before I used to open heater all the way to cool down the temperture. But find out that overheat was cause by the leak. Then I fix that problem. It was a leak on the Thermostat wall. After that the heater never work anymore. Now after few week, the engine die on me while going up the bridge. I don't know if anything has connection to it. Please help. Thanks for your time.

I don't mean that is doesn't have fuel, the fuel is delivered to the engine from an electric fuel pump in the gas tank, if the pump stops working the car will stall just like it's out of gas, do you understands? Also if the crankshaft position sensor is bad there should be a trouble code stored in the memory of the computer, go to any auto zone or Kragen auto and ask them top run a trouble code test, ask them if there is a crank sensor code in memory, there should be one if that is the problem, in any event let me know what codes they get if any, you want to cover all the bases so you don't get stuck on the road again right? been doing this kind of work 30 years and I only believe there is a certain problem with a car when all the findings are in, I do not guess.

Sounds like a crank position sensor . they get old and lose connection when they get hot . after it cools down they make connection again . they control the fire on the motor , it tells the computer the rotation of the motor , no reading , no fire . heat the car up and let it run until it dies , then pull a spark plug wire off one of the spark plugs . put a screw driver in the end of the wire , and set it close to a ground . have someone to turn the motor over and see if you get spark . if not.... its the crank position sensor

What order do the spark plug wires go on the distributor for a 1992 mazda protege dx

You may need a book with a diagram for this. Most auto parts stores have the books. Online search may be good too.
Firing order is 1342 counterclockwise. You may have to put the timing marks on TDC to know which wire terminal is cylinder one. Cylinder one is the cylinder closest to the drive belts.

1992 mazda protege dx 4 dr won't start. Battery is only 2 months old. Makes a fast ticking sound from inside car similar to turn signal light out.

Hi Robin, As the battery is new and presumably not defective, I think you should suspect the soloniod fitted to the starter motor. If that component has become defective it will give the sound you're reporting. Depending on where you live in the world and the labour charges, you can have the contacter's replaced or the starter motor (if labour charges are high) Regards John

1999 Protege overheating. Changed thermostat, radiator, water pump and burped the new radiator. Runs fine on freeway, but will overheat in stop and go traffic.

if your vehicle has electric cooling fans it could be that they are not working,if this is the case when you are on the freeway you don't need the cooling fans you only need them when the vehicle is not moving as there is no air going through the radiator to keep the engine cool......hope this helps......cheers.

Replaced battery in 1997 mazda protege DX. dash lights come on, but engine will not turn. small red light on left side of dash is on now, it was not prior to the battery swap. we bought this car used,...

First make sure your battery cables a secured tightly, then look under your dash on driver side for a little black or red button if not there then by your fuse block for a little hide away toggle, you can also unhook ground for 5 min then re-hook and hit the brake rapidly for 5 sec resets your ECU

This is for the 1.5.L DOHC. 1-3-4-2

you can know the firing order simply by reading the numbers written on the distributer starting from 1 clockwise and they will be 1-3-4-2
