My Ford Focus 2l tdci is smoking heavily by times. The car is for the past week in the workshop and no smoking occurred. How come blue smoke is pouring out of the exhaust only sometimes - then it is g

Hi Gert, If the smoke is more visible during the period after start up in the mornings, I would suspect the valve stem oil seals have become hardened and defective. The oil seeps in slowly passing the seals from the cylinder head. Sounds as though you need a head job. Regards John

2.0 TDCi Ford Mondeo '03 plenty revs but lost most power when driving black smoke with accelerator pedal to floor

Lost power and Black smoke:

You have a Failed MAP Sensor and / or the vacuum line is off or cracked.

The ECU thinks the engine is under full load and is getting all the fuel it can to the engine.

Hope this tip helps guide you to solve this problem.

Very occassionally i have loss of power and black smoke from the exhaust of my ford focas tdci estate 2002 model. It lasts for only about 500 yards then the smoke clears and it surges forward and is o.k.....

MAF?

The mass airflow sensor is located right after the airfilter and can be the source of the problem you describe.

Sounds like it is overfuelling during these episodes.

Power loss and black smoke?

I had a similar issue to this after I got in a VERY small fender bender (literally) in an 87 Turbo Supra. In my case, my pasenger fender got pushed in JUST enough to crack a charge pipe and cause a boost leak.

Basically, what was happening was the turbo would spool and build boost, the mass fair flow sensor would read all this air coming in and tell the ECU to dial up the the appropriate amount of fuel. When the air reached the cracks in the charge pipe, it would escape out of them. Thus there was a much lower air-to-fuel ratio, causing less fuel to combust, which lead to power loss and black smoke out of the exhaust.

My guess is either an oxygen sensor, or more likely a boost leak.

Good luck mate.

2006 ford focus tdci 2.0 not starting

When was the last time you drove this Focus?
The easy route is to treat the tank with chemicals.
Look of ISO-HEET or similar water removal additive. MAKE SURE IT IS 99% or better Isopropal Alcohol.
The second product is from Starbrite call Startron additive. You can find it in a boating supply store.
Follow the direction on the bottle and you should able to convert the bad diesel fuel to usable state.
