Recheck your timing marks. Sounds like valve timing is off. Check compression it needs a minimum 90 lbs to run. Bet you money the timing belt was put on out of phase.

I have a 96 chevy pick up. Votec v6 automatic. Getting fire, getting gas, turning over, but wont start. Do u know any possible reasons why it wont.

It's out of time. There is a timing mark on the bottom pully of your engine, a series of lines cast into it. One is marked 0. Turn the engine over by hand until the 0 lines up with the marker attached to the block. Then lift the distributor cover and see where the rotor is pointed. It should be at the plug wire for the #1 piston which is the front one on the drivers side. You can loosen the distributor and turn it so they line up, then tighten it down and it should start. You are probably going to have to replace the timing chain.

If my trubo diesel 6.5 chevy if the timeing is off it wont stay runing if i fix the timeing well that make it idelthat was 1 of the code that came up its geting fuel u give it gas it well run u let of

Yes timing is everything with motors if the cylinder isn't firing at the right time all u are doing is filling the cylinder with raw fuel and dumping it into exhaust un burned it can eventually ruin you're catalytic converters also, get it professionally timed you're truck will run like a champ, unles u already caused damage.

1997 , wont crank

if starter will engage and engine can turn over quickly it should start.

however.. i dont know how you are verifying it has fuel as its a high-pressure FI system.

these systems by GM are VERY finicky and unless within spec precisely it will NOT run. i suspect fuel pump is putting out less than 57# which is min for these.

fuel pump known failure part. if replaced you MUST also replace wire harness at tank as they usually fail internally w/melted wires you cant see through wire sheath. low voltage will KILL the new pump.

also you didnt note engine size and family...

Had the head redone, new Carb fitted, new distributor cover and leads new spark plugs, crank timing set to mark (0)and cam timing (2e)set to mark on head. the engine swings, fires from the carb, spark on...

Sounds like you have your timing off. If it is backfiring, that means that 2 of your wires are crossed, causing the plugs to fire on the exhaust stroke versus the compression stroke. Recheck your timing.
