Question about 1995 Lexus Sc 400

2 Answers

Starter I own a 98 Lexus SC400 and it has 98,200 miles, excellent condition. I took it out for the longest trip (200 miles) since owning it (I bought it at 97,300) Did a tune up by a specialist $500 and flushed all fluids. This car has started everytime however while on this trip (might add I live in Phoenix, AZ and went to higher elevation 4k to 5k feet) first symptom of the starter was after sitting at 5k feet overnite and waking in the morning, temps in the 40's starter went dornk dornk dornk 4th time it started. It continued this behavior for 2 to 3 days and 4 days later it starts everytime. Drove in some rain and I saw a recall on 97's regarding splash on the starter. Phoenix this time of year we are waking to lows in the 40's checked this a.m. started right up. Is the starter about to die?? Thanks for your help

Not associated to the battery or lubs as it doesn't even turn over just makes this dornk sound and when it hits it cranks great and starts immediately.

No it is because your engine got cold and now the oil is thicker having a harder time lubricating things

OK then your engine might be about to throw a rod that would demolish your engine i recommend getting it looked at soon

Engine running fine. Had Advance run a scan and they came up with codes 171 and 174. He cleared the light and it didn't come on again. I am about to go on a 800 (one way) mile trip and am concerned.

These codes can be caused by loose vacuum hoses or leaking intake manifold gaskets. Unless the leak is bad, it will not usually affect the performance of the eninge other than to run a little warmer than normal. The condition is not likely to worsen significantly over 800 miles, but I would check for leaks if I were you. To check the gaskets, start the engine and spray starter fluid on the gaskets. If the engine speeds up, there is a vacuum leak where you sprayed. OK?

How many mile can u tipically get out of a 93 lexus 300 before itsnot worth resale value? i was in the market to buy a lexus but it has 210,000 miles on it. it runs excellent! the purchase price is $2500...

AT 100,000 MOST PEOPLE ARE LEARY TO BUY EVEN A LEXUS, AT 200,000+ THE CAR ISN'T WORTH MUCH, I WOULD OFFER $2000.00 IF THE CAR IS REALLY NICE, BUT STRONGLY SUGGEST U ASK FOR SERVICING RECORDS LIKE OIL CHANGES AND HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED BY A LEXUS DEALER.

I have my manual for my 98, let me know what engine & I'll give you what Chrysler recommends. Driving habits & conditions make a difference too. Normal is schedule A, severe is schedule B. Severe as in lots of stop & go, cold temperatures, short trips, dusty roads etc.

Quick Question on MINI break-in period bmw

When I picked up my car. the very next day I went on a 800+ mile trip. During the trip, I made a mental note to vary my speeds between 50 and 90 and do frequent gear changes to keep the RPMs moving around... did my best to simulate city driving.

The oil change intervals are based upon your driving conditions. depending on which oil they use, it should be fine. My oil was drained in my car at 11k miles and it turned out to be in good condition.
