1998 Caravan serpentine belt keeps coming off. we have replaced the belt but the problem persists. It seems like it when we have wet highways.

Check for a worn bottom crank damper pulley,
if it is covered in oil you got the problem

Are you not checking alignment ?

No other reason the belt would climb the grouves

What about the tensioner?

Nothing to do with water-- you can spray a garden
hose on it & it will stay on

95 7.3 powerstoke belt

Below I have given you a picture of how the drive belt is routed around the different pully's. Pully number 8 (the one marked with a red arrow) is your belt tensioner. It is spring loaded. On the pully itself is a 15 millimeter bolt. Take a 15mm wrentch and rotate it counter clockwise (away from the belt) to loosen the tension. This will make it loose enough to remove the belt off of one of the pully's and then remove the belt. It should have quite a bit of tension so you may need a long wrench or some sort of a pipe to go over the end of the wrench in order to give you better leverage in order to loosen the tension. Hope this helps....

I have a 97 chevy dually and i need a diagram of how to change the serpetine belt..its a 7.4 litre

easy job all you need is a size 14 wrench and find the tensioner pully once youve done that take your wrench and put it on the nut on the front of the pully and pull upward once you see the belt to get loose enough to pull from the alternator pull it off work it in front of the fan until its out. make sure to draw a picture of the way it was routed so you can put it back on without a problem you will need to pull the tensioner while you are reinstalling the new belt so you will have enough slack in the belt to push it over the last pully. also take the old belt with you to the parts store so you can compare the size and part number from the old one. theres nothing more frustrating then to get the wrong part and figure it out when your trying to put it on

Belt problem after replacing power steering pump and pully 98ram

If the tensioner can be moved by hand the lock down bolt is not doing its job. Try to tighten the bolt with the belt pulled tight and then release. If the belt loosens the bolt is not working as it should. Make sure theres a lock washer (split lock washer) between the bolt head and the post.

How to tighten my 306 dt 98 fan belt

you need to take off the drivers front wheel and plastic cover infront of the engine.
then you need to crack off two allen key type bolts holding the braket and tensioner pully in place, that is positioned just right of the crankshaft pully. Once the whole unit is slack you have to loosen the adjuster that is visible underneath the tensioner braket to take the tension off the belt. Once the belt is loose enough take it off and reverse process avoiding overtightening new belt. [It needs a little give to avoid damging bearings in the pully]

Tension pully is loose making the belt rattle

It sounds like you have a broken serpentine belt tensioner. The tensioner should always be tight, it is spring loaded and you would have had to release the tension on it to have put the new belt on.Depending on what engine that is in yours, this could be an easy fix or a hard fix. The tensioner on a 2.2L is made into a large plate bracket that is attached to the front on the engine and several other items have to come off to replace it.The tensioner on the 3.1L v6 is smaller and has one bolt that holds it on.Either one is available at the local auto parts store.

Hope this helps

REPLACING BELT ON MY 2000 TAURUS.HAVE BELT OVER ALL PULLYS,BUT LAST ONE ,DON'T KNOW HOW TO PULL BACK PULLY AND GET BELT ON AT THE SAME TIME.

locate the tensioner... you need a "breaker" bar with a 3/8 inch socket head... a rachet would do with a long enough handle. there is a square hole in the tensioner... you need to release pressure on the tensioner long enough to get the belt on.

Belt replacement 1990 acura integra

Ok, you will need a 10 mm socket and extension and a 14 and 15 mm wrench. One of the "idler" pullies is actualy an adjustable tension pully. loosen the center nut on the pully, and then begin loosening the 10 mm bolt from above. as you loosen it, the pully will drop, and soon enough you can slip the belt off.
good luck

The belt keeps coming loose on my 1985 amc eagle wagon. Apparently, this belt also charges the battery. So my battery went dead, and the car makes squeaking sounds...

You need to replace the alternator belt.they have a bolt which you loosen the belt. the belt probably got loose because this "tension" bolt was not properly tightened. the noise you hear is the belt slipping on the pullies. to replace it loosen the tension bolt until it is lose enough to remove the old belt. replace the belt with one of the same thickness and length. Be sure to tighten the bolt to where the belt will have about a 1/2 inch pressing down on it firmly with your thumb. you may have to remove some other components ( the fan for example) to replace the belt but thats questionable.
