Question about 2001 Dodge Caravan

Rad fans run with engine off drain the battery 2001 Dodge Caravan

I have a 2001 Dodge Caravan SE with approximately 160,000 km on it. Just recently had it to the mechanic and they couldn't recreate the problem so they suggested changing the fan relay. That was changed but the problem still persists. They also mentioned that the PCM is near "end of life" and it would cost approximately $1,000.00 to fix.

I've been disconnecting the negative battery cable when I stop for long periods of time and reconnect to start again. Most times when I reconnect, the fans start up immediately. What could possibly be the problem? How do I know if it's the PCM, ECM etc.

I have a similar problem. When the radiator fan comes on the headlights gets dim and the radio display gets bright. Today for the first time, while driving the van stalled. I disconnected the minus on the battery to reset the computer and it started. I went to my next destination and parked. An hour later I was going to leave, the same thing happen. The van would not crank (not turning at all). I reset the computer the same way as last time, it would not help. I did it several times, would not work. I got someone to pick me up and came back two hours later the get it towed. I tried to crank it and it started. I drove home without stalling. Tomorrow I'm going to a mechanic to check the codes. Hopefully I'll find a code. I suspect the computer. A friend mechanic told me this van has 3 computers, a body computer the main computer and the transmission computer.I'm afraid to drive it since it could stall anytime.

I have never heard of any tech telling a customer that thier PCM was nearing the end of life. Your problem most likely exists in the PDC( power ditribution center) the underhood fuse/relay box. There are layers of internal wires and connectors which can short etc. also, the pcm could cause this issues, but would set a code when doing so. Another thing to check is to see if the fan wiring harness is shorted to another component. It is impossible to diagnose your vehicle over the net, I recommend you take your van to a reputable dealer who's techs are trained to deal with these wiring issues.

Installing a radiator in a 1999 dodge intrepid

first do this when engine is cold, i know its obvious but its always good practice when giving advice to be thorough, then remove the rad cap, there will be a drain tap/plug at bottom of rad undo a let coolant drain out, the rad is usually held in place by 4 bolts 2 each side loosen these off then remove top and bottom hosesfrom rad, and depending on fitting type lift rad straight up , if does'nt lift up remove the bolts and lift rad away.install is a reverse top up with COOLANT not plain water run engine once refilled and look for bleed screw(s) on the hoses/engine body to let air out ,if has an electric fan ie turns on and off not running all the time wait for the fan the cut in an turn off engine allow to cool for at least an hour and slowly remove filler cap to check coolant level top up if required repeat until no more coolant needs to be added .Good luck

99 dodge caravan electric rad fan not coming on with engine temp or with ac on.

this sounds like the cooling fan is siezed and needs replacing.if you find the plug for the cooling fan you can disconnect it and feed the connectors on the fan motor directly from the battery it should run if not then it will need replacing.this is the most common problem however sometimes the fan relay will cause a problem

My fan keeps running after engine 01 jaguar S type 6 cylinder am i overheating

It is normal for your fan to continue to run for approximately 10mins AFTER shut off your engine. If it run's for longer than that or it drain's your battery, then you have a problem.

Will a radiator from a 2001 caravan fit in a 2004 caravan? I have a fairly new rad fromm a 2001 caravan and I need to replace the rad in my 2004, I am wondering if it will fit

If you have a 3.3L V6 cylinder engine 01 & 04 are the same radiator's, if it's an 2.4L 4 cylinder engine it will not fit. Hope this was very helpful.

I replaced my radiator cooling fan motors both of them on my Dodge Grand Caravan and i replaced the relay and fuse and coolant temparature sensor and my fans still won't work.

check for battery power at pin 4 of rad fan relay connector..ground at pin 1..jump pins 3 and 4..fans should work..if not, check harness about 3-4 inches away from relay connector..have seen these corrode..if fans work, the engine controller may not be grounding relay..any codes in engine controller?engine light on?

you will need to replace the relay for the fan because it is stuck on. You can look on autozone.com for free online repair guide. It will have the relay location unless you have a repair manual of your own. But it is the relay.

Need procedure to remove/replace radiator on 01 Dodge Grand Carva

This Link is for R&R rad fan assy, but once your there, the rad should be pretty obvious, what else needs to be done. Fan has to come off first anyway.
