Question about 2001 Dodge Caravan
I have a 2001 Dodge Caravan SE with approximately 160,000 km on it. Just recently had it to the mechanic and they couldn't recreate the problem so they suggested changing the fan relay. That was changed but the problem still persists. They also mentioned that the PCM is near "end of life" and it would cost approximately $1,000.00 to fix.
I've been disconnecting the negative battery cable when I stop for long periods of time and reconnect to start again. Most times when I reconnect, the fans start up immediately. What could possibly be the problem? How do I know if it's the PCM, ECM etc.
I have never heard of any tech telling a customer that thier PCM was nearing the end of life. Your problem most likely exists in the PDC( power ditribution center) the underhood fuse/relay box. There are layers of internal wires and connectors which can short etc. also, the pcm could cause this issues, but would set a code when doing so. Another thing to check is to see if the fan wiring harness is shorted to another component. It is impossible to diagnose your vehicle over the net, I recommend you take your van to a reputable dealer who's techs are trained to deal with these wiring issues.
