Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

The cyclops light on the trunk lid of 99 Intrepid is not working.

There is no damage to the trunk, nor did I back into anything. My son was following me the other day and remarked that it was not working.

There are two bulbs back there and both of them were burned out. Of course, one may have burned out some time ago and I wasn't aware of it.
Took the vehicle to my local shop. They changed out both bulbs (had to remove the trunk lid liner) and charged me less than $10 for the job.
    Thanks for your help!

Water in the trunk of my 2002 intrepid

If you notice it after it rains, it could be a poorly sealing gasket for the trunk lid, or a leaking tail light.

The back up lights and trunk lid lights don't

Check the wire connecting the lights. It often runs up near the hinge and could get separated, damaged or cut. If it is cut or damaged a simple splice should repair it. Also check your fuses.

Ligth in back not work

If you're referring to the tail lights, I had the same problem. They started going out and wouldn't work with new bulbs. I discovered that there is a wiring harness for these lights that travels down the passenger side of the trunk lid. It gets bent whenever the trunk is opened ( only the part of the harness that is near the hinged part of the trunk lid). The wires inside the harness eventually break due to being bent back and forth repeatedly - just like bending a piece of metal back and forth until it breaks. Replace the harness or bypass the damaged area and you will have lights again.

2005 Kia Spectra - brake lights on tail lights are not working but the brake light above the hatch is working. Have checked fuses. Any ideas?

Check around in that trunk for loose wires. Especially a grounding wire at the taillights. Sometimes in our hurry to shove stuff in the trunk it's possible to disconnect, or cut a wire... If you've got the 'cyclops" light working on the hatch, then there's power back there, just look around and I'm sure you locate a loose or damaged wire... trace them back from the taillights and look close for cuts, frays, damage, loose connection..

Backup lights not working

The wires that go to the trunk lid are most likely damaged or disconnected, BUT first read your owners manual to locate where the fuse(s) are for both your trunk release, and back up lamps to make sure they are not blown, replace if necessary, and re-check ... if they are fine ... then check the most likely area (where the wires move) the wires will be on either side of the trunk lid brackets ... follow them look for first a disconnected connector ... and then a broken wire in the harness ... has this vehicle had recent body work or recently toted large items such as golf clubs that may have entangled the wires?

There should be some thumb screws behind the trunk liner you can remove and the tail light unit will slide out to expose the bulb sockets.
