This is most likely the rear main crankshaft seal, the trans must be removed to replace the seal.

So the top of my bell housing along with all the bolts are leaking antifreeze/water what could that possibly be mind you my truck is a 1993 Chevy k 15 pickup four-wheel drive

Engine blocks have multiple freeze plugs, also called expansion plugs, installed to block the holes used to cast the metal. The plugs prevent coolant from leaking out of the block, and if coolant freezes (due to improper concentration or extreme temperatures), the expanding ice pops the plugs out to prevent block damage. Now, from the factory the plugs are usually made of steel and therefore tend to rust out over time and start to leak antifreeze. Considering there are no cooling system components inside the bell housing, it is highly likely that either one of these plugs are leaking OR something higher up on the engine is leaking down onto the bell housing, such as a head gasket or coolant hose. A cooling system pressure test would need to be performed to isolate the source of the leak. You can read more here:

My 2001 colt 3000i v6 4x4 uses 1.5lt oil on 145km. there is no oil lying under the vehicle and it doesn't smoke. do i need to rebuild or what else is the problem?

Hello Corne...

If the engine isn't burning it...it's leaking while running and not leaking when it's not running...sooooo...get a trouble light and inspect the engine block for any indications of oil stains..Start the engine and bring the RPM's up to around 3000 and inspect the blocks value cover gaskets for leaks. It is also possible that the rear crankshaft seal is leaking while the motor is running and escaping from the bottom of the Bell housing onto the road surface..

Find a suitable location to park the vehicle nose up (on an incline) apply the parking brake, safety block the wheels, start the engine, transmission in neutral, 4 wheel drive disengaged and check for leaks from the bottom of the bell housing.

The oil is going somewhere..a careful inspection should isolate the leaks location.

Oil leakage on Mercedes Benz 5.0L engines

oil in the bell housing can be rear main seal and it can also be input shaft seal in the gear box if manual. The sump bolts on the rear main cap and will leak next to the bell housing indicating a main seal . If auto then the seal on the converter will leak and the oil will leak out of the bell housing. If you are convinced that it is a main seal then check that there is no crankcase pressure issues to make it leak. Change the engine oil and clean the area and if the oils is clean then that will indicate engine or gear box. Put a white chalk line across any oil paths and watch for it to cross the chalk and change the chalk colour.

I have 1995 toyota camry with 2.2 liter engine.I installed a new oil pan gasket, and valve cover gasket, cause there was alot of oil leaking from that area. All the work was done about two months ago.there...

I have the same car and the same problem. I can see the oil shooting out at the (upside down) rear, right side of the oil pan. This side of the oil pan is covered by a piece of plastic foam. There are no bolts on this side of the pan. Toyota recommends grey Formagaskit to seal the pan. The natural flow for this leak is all over the bell housing. The piece of plastic foam is attached to bell housing inspection cover. Good Luck!!!
