Hi, thanks again for the help that fixed alot of the issues, tho now it seems to be stalling out at every stop. will the nightmare carb ever end.

  • kithlok Dec 06, 2008

of that i am unsure. however a friend informed me that it may just be a pcv valve, it was replaced, and seems to not be stalling out now.

final question. the idle was set befor we fixed the carb and now every attempt at tuning it fails short i.e if its back off a bit it will run to low or brought up a hair it eventually runs to high.

If it is leaking fuel there are most likely 2 issues, one check the float level, 2, the air horn is warped or the body of the carb is warped, done 100's and these are the only issues I have ever seen.

Ive got a 1967 Firebird with a 1968 pontiac 350 in it. It's got a problem that when you try to excellerate it just stumbles all over it self and cant get any power.

check for 2 wires crossed in the firing order --will start and idle ok but plays up when accelerated
check the power valve and the accelerator pump systems in the carby
( new means nothing and back fires destroys power valves)
use lead separators to keep ht leads apart
static btd timing has to be no more than recommended as it will cause problems at rpms.
if you have a points system the point gap and condenser are critical as well

How to change fuel pump in a 2000 Pontiac firebird

If the car starts and is not staying running I do not think it is the fuel pump. It is either your idle air control valve not allowing enough air to get into the engine as they can get clogged pretty easy with carbon. Or it could be your throttle position sensor not functioning correctly. The first one can be cleaned with regular carb cleaner and that may fix the problem,.

My 1992 Pontiac Firebird stalls in idle, i recently had the cooling system repaired an the whole top of the engin was taken apart and cleand. I was told that some time the car has to reset its self for...

Cabon deposits in the throttle bore and on the throttle plate will limit airflow at idle and make a reset difficult. The throttle bore must be clean first. Carbon deposits on the idle control motor can impede this process also, but they do not take kindly to a liberal cleaning. I would recommend a new iac motor unless it has already been replaced.

1991 firebird has spark fuel pump running. will start sometimes and run perfect if you shut it off it will not restart until it wants to still has spark and fuel pump.changed coolant sensor no help any...

Try this - CLEAN your battery cables both top & BOTTOM. Everybody cleans the tops but ignores the bottom ends which are exposed to grease, grime road sludge. What makes me suspect of cables - when cold cables contract and make good contact. As soon as they heat up, they expand and any grease or dirt adds resistance.

I would ck for fuel pressure at carb, if it has pressure then i would suspect the needle and seat are leaking causing to flood with fuel when trying to start up., if the carb is the issue then repl needle and seat in carb.

1998 Firebird fuel filter

Need more information. Has car been sitting? Is it getting fuel to the intake? ( injector or throttle body?) What engine does it have? What type of carb. does it have? fuel injection, carb., or throttle body? Pull off a plug wire, and check it for spark....does ignition spark? Check timing for jumping. could have jumped timing belt? you need someone to help you visualize and troubleshoot.
