1999 Jetta Headlights not working at all

The headlights on my Jetta do not always work. The tail lights and break lights are fine, but sometimes the headlights will not turn on at all and the light that appears when the highbeams are on is lit on the dash. The lights will suddenly turn on after about 15 minutes of driving or so.

2002 Jetta. Taillights, blinkers, and reverse all work fine. Brand new bulbs, but headlights don't come on. Blue highbeam indicator is on though.
    Have not checked fuse, yet.

Head lights and wipers do not work all the time. Parking brake light is dimly lit when the lights do not work. Sometimes i can get the lights and wipers to work by playing with the ignition and the key. Does not always work though.

1999 Isuzu Trooper. How to fix brake light problems?

Question edited for clarity. Wrong type of break / brake.
Question moved to model category.

Check the brake switch with a meter first. Then check headlight relays and fuses.

Tail light doesnt turn on with headlights but works fine as a break light and turn signal, why?

in the rear lights you may have two bulbs one is the turn signal the other one is stop light / tail light the stop light / tail light has two filaments, one for the stop light (21 watt) & one for the tail light (5 watt) it is possible that the tail light filament is blown, try replacing the bulb to see if that fixes the problem, also check all the fuses as well.......hope this helps......cheers.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

2001 VW Jetta rear running lights out. bulbs good, fuses good.

Almost sure it is a recall for a relay. Call the dealer, I had a 2001 VR6 with the same problem, and it was a simple, free recall.

1999 jeep grand cherokee - brake lights and turn signals working but Right tail light out with all other lights on--HELP??? My 1999 Grand Cherokee has no parking lights in the rear. The brake lights work...

I have taken my car to many shops to solve this problem. Long story short your tail light has a bad circut and entire lamp must be replaced. (Lamp cost approximate $130.00)

Headlights stopped working

it is your DRL module they malfunction and therefore your headlights stop working. i disconnected my relay located in the dash where your radio is and i can then manually turn them on the only problem with that is that i cannot locate the module itself
