Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Removal of rear window

I have a 2004 Malibu Maxx that the cable from the window motor has somehow came off track. The motor still operates, but will not lower or raise the window. I've already removed the door panel and associated trim but cannot find where to remove the window from the motor guide. I also need to know how the motor cable for the window is routed. Thanks in advance.

The bad news is when the cable comes loose it normally means some plastic retaining part has broken, so you will need a new or at least a replacement regulator (which is the cable mechanism that rolls the window up and down). This will bolt both to the door and to the window. I would leave the window in the door and just tape it up once you have it unbolted from the regulator.

Passenger window wont go all the way up on 2005 malibu maxx

It is probably off of the track. A very easy fix if you take it to a mechanic.

Where is the crankshaft on a 2004 malibu maxx

The crankshaft is inside the motor and ticks out either end. It rotates and is driven by the pistons and connecting rods.

Rear passenger window is stuck and wont go up or down

I've had this happen on both rear windows of my 1999 Malibu. It is the window regulator, which is a motor mounted on a track. The motor moves a guide along the track via a cable, which is strung along two wheels at either end of the track. The guide holds the window.

The weak link in all of this is the guide. A plastic piece on one side holds it to the track, but it isn't very strong. If it breaks, the guide will slip off the track under pressure (i.e., when you're rolling the window up).

You can "restring" the cable, and it might hold for a little while (held on by tension from the cable), but your best bet is to buy a new one on-line. Cost about $90. Removing the door panel is the hard part. You should be able to find a video online on how to do all this.

Left rear window will not go up in my 2003 chevy malibu. What is wrong with it?

Do you hear the motor running when you try to put window up? If you do the cable from the window track to the motor is most likely broken. If not the switch , motor or a wire couldbe broken.
