SOURCE: how can i change fuel filter in my grand marquis

you will need the proper Quick Disconnect tool, Look on the Frame rail for the filter, remove filter from the spring type retainer, remove the safety clips on the lines but not remove them completely, insert the disconnect tool & push into the fitting of the fuel line, push line & tool into eachother then pull filter away from line, if not done properly you will have a big problem putting the line back on

SOURCE: Overdrive light is flashing on my 1996 Mercury

That usually means the transmission is in "LIMP" mode... Just to get you home or to a Service Center of your choice (one that does transmissions).... When it O/D blinks the car will drive sluggish... it stays in second gear and does not shift.... just so you can LIMP somewhere...... a good price to rebuild this transmission is about 1500 dollars.... Good Luck

You can remove the NEG battery terminal for 10 minutes and it will clear. Or go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan, find out why it came on, then have them clear it with their scanner.

P1131 and p1151 codes in 2001 mercury grand marquis, how do i fix it?

Try cleaning the MAF sensor first, then check for any unmetered air getting into throttle body (leaks in intake hose). Bank 1 is the driver's side of the engine (or front on FWD) and bank 2 is the passenger side.

WHERE IS THE OXYGEN CENSOR ON A 1997 GRAND MARQUIS

O2 sensors are located in the exhaust manifold near the Catalytic converter.
Some cars have the 02 sensor before the catalytic converter, some behind, and some before and after.

Simply locate the "bung" that contains the O2 sensor, and you will see the sensor connected to wires.
This is the best way to locate them.

I have a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis, that had the check engine light come on last night. I stopped, and had a auto store check for the code, and it showed a code of P1120. They could not tell me what this...

The code indicates P1120 TPS Out Of Range Low according to the ODB 2 chart. Get a Haynes or Chilton's manual to get instructions on how to make this repair.

My check engine light is on, I got 3 error messages. The first two are "system too lean bank one" and "system too lean bank two". the third error message is cylinder 1 is misfiring. What would cause these...

Well you may have more then one problem here. However that being said I bet the misfire is related to the lean mixture. The lean mixture is likely due to a malfunctioning sensor. If I was you I would start with the O2 sensors. O2(oxygen) sensors start degrading the moment they are first used and only work their best for a year or so. Start there and see if that doesn't fix the problem. After that you got MAP sensor and TPS sensor. Usually if you dont see big driveability problems it is just the O2 sensors.

1996 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH OCCASIONAL SLUGGISHNESS ON ACCELERATION AND SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE USING MORE GAS THAN USUAL. HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF, REG. OIL CHANGES, NEW FUEL FILTER 2 YRS AGO-DR

I would use 10W40 in the 96 and 5W20 or 30 in the 2002.

For the 96 with sluggishness, you need to gently clean the MAF sensor wires with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. It is in the air intake tube. After cleaning, disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, then reconnect so the computer can relearn the clean sensor. Drive for 10 miles, it will run rough until it relearns.

Section 03-14: Engine Controls, Electronic 1996 Town Car, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor The mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579):
  • is mounted on the corner of the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600).
  • uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine; air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool.
  • sends out an analog voltage signal to the PCM (12A650) to determine the intake air mass. The PCM will then calculate the required fuel injector pulse width to provide the desired air/fuel ratio.
The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly.
