Question about 1999 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Rough idle and a thud coming from lower engine in reps of 3 or 4

I just purchased a 1999 ford explorer sport 4x2 5speed manual trans. After the engine warms up, when coming to idle while coming to a stop and it continues to do this while sitting at an idle as well- Something under the hood it sounds like(and i can feel it as if someone was under the car hitting the floorboards or pounding on the floorboards with a fist and doing it just enough to make me feel it) and usually in repititions of 3 or 4... and the truck idle will almost drop out here and there when sitting still for a couple minutes or so. What could be the problem and solutions to them please...?

Why does my 2001 sport trac stall at a stop after a long trip

My guess, throttle positioning sensor is failing and won't hold when it's hot. this sets base idle.

2002 ford explorer sport trac , starts fine, runs good then about 30 min it starts to run rough, and idling poorly, not fuel or fuel filter

You need to check your plug wires for cracks and wear. The best way to know if they are bad is to run your engine at nightr and look for any time of blue arcing spark coming from any of the wires. I believe that replacing the wires will solve your problem.

Have a P0732 and P0733 scan code on my Ford Explorer sport trac what is the fix?

They are transmission codes

You will need help to diagnose
the cause of 2nd & 3rd Gear Ratio
Incorrect

Could be a sensor on trans & you
will most likely have 3, that are possibly
near the top, and not accessible, without
lowering the trans. Just a heads up,hopefully
not the case.

Try a good repair shop with trans experience
or a trans shop

Hello,
Very common concern with the Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine! The upper and lower intake manifold gaskets fail, causing vacuum leaks..It can be Extremely difficult to detect these leaks, because they only leak intermittently (usually in the AM after a cold soak)... As the engine warms up they seal back up! Sometimes the vehicle will idle rough, surge or stall after initial start up, then the symptoms will clear after it gets to operating temperature... Usually there will be no driveability symptoms at all, except the engine light coming on and setting lean codes.. The gaskets have been redesigned to correct this concern..

Pcv valve :where is it located on a 1999 ford explorer sport 2wd

It is located at the back of the engine near the fire wall. It is gray with a T connector at the top with two hoses coming off of the T and going forward into the intake manifold.

Transmission Modulator. Sounds like the vacuum line from the intake to the trans is suckin trans fluid. Not sure about that car but maybe worth a shot.
