I have already had this truck put on diagnoic machine and nothing shows to be wrong.

  • coyles Dec 02, 2008

Sorry, I didn't tell the first time, this is a 1500 gas truck.

  • coyles Dec 02, 2008

I didn't understand what you meant. The motor doesn't miss, it's in the transmission only. It's keeps shifting back into 3rd gear out of overdrive, it wouldn't stay in overdrive on a slight pull. It just shifts back and forth.

  • coyles Dec 03, 2008

The motor isn't quitting or stalling, it's when the truck shifts into overdrive from 3rd gear (automatic) it will not stay in overdrive when on a slight uphill grade. It shifts back and forth into overdrive back out, just back and forth. It just started doing this. It is a new truck, sits in the garage, we bought it new and it only has approx. 28,000 miles on it.

This truck don't seem to have any missing problem. The transmission is just shifting back and forth from 3rd gear (automatic) to overdrive on a slight pull or upgrade. We changed all the syoloid sensors it didn't change anything. Help??!!!!

  • coyles Dec 03, 2008

Could you please give me more details on why you think the transmission mount needs changing. This truck only has 28,000 miles on it.

  • coyles Dec 03, 2008

  • coyles Dec 03, 2008

As you probily know this is a computer controlled trans
what we need to look at is wht the computer is looking at and what it does with the information.
so this thruck is looking at pressures in the trans and speed sensors.
also it looks at your throttle position sensor
you could have a couple of problems that wouldnt show up as a trouble code. like a bad throttle position switch .
telling your computer that you have your foot deep in the throttle calling for a down shift. but i dont like to guess on these things it should be tested .
you caould also have a programming problem with the ecm. and need to be flashed .
my first step would be to test the TPS
good luck and find me

and i will continue to help you

Fastboyz is on track with his answer.there are quite a few updates on your transmission for shift concerns. this is done with a tech2 scanner and reprograms computer. also if you have installed larger tires this will need to be updated. can cause problem also.Just because there is no trouble code does not mean it is not a computer related problem. have it checked for updates

TRANSMISSION

Fuse # 20 or 21 gets power through ignition. This fuse controls PRNDL indicator, speedometer, tach, & will cause transmission to not shift gears correctly. Ours took off in 3rd gear when put in Overdrive & only ran in 3rd gear. If we tried to manually shift thru gears (auto trans), it had 1st, 3rd, reverse. No 2nd or over drive. Replaced ignition. Fixed problem. Root problem was Electric motor that engaged 4 wheel low side was bad. Every time we used 4 Low side it threw power surge through ignition & blew ignition out. Good Luck.

If you have no overdrive at all, and virtually no third, then it's time for an overhaul. The 3-4 clutches have failed, a common problem in this trans since 1981. Yes, 1981. Your trans is a 4L60-E that is computer controlled. In 1981 it was called a THM700-R4, and was hydraulically controlled. The input clutch drum is basically the same as it was in 1981, and the 3-4 clutches are prone to failure, usually around 130,000 to 150,000 kms (75,000 to 90,000 miles).

Sounds like the PRNDL switch on the side of the transmission. Be sure and clear the code before trying to start after replacing it.

92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

Chev truck shifting touble

Possible that the 3-2 downshift solenoid needs replaced in the valve body of the transmission. I would take it to a local transmission shop to have a scanner hooked up to see what codes they can pull from it. Hope this helps! ~Derek~

99 silverado will not shift into overdrive

have a 1998 K3500 silverado 4x4 with 454 motor and 4L80E transmission. I can not get over 55 or 60 mph. At that speed the transmission down shifts from 4th (OD) to 3rd. The speedometer also drifts from about 50 to 65. If I try to speed up it will down shift to 3rd. I have replaced the VSS on the trasfer case. Is there another speed sensor somewhere? Or could it be the TPS? The truck drives and shift normal up to this point. where should i look next. thanks

Transmission

hello, your truck will not shift from second to third . If it wont shift to third it is going to need new clutchs or seals installed in the transmission that is a common problem with the 4L60e transmission.
