I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee that has a limp mode. It just has no power but still runs. Could it be the catalict convertor blocked or the muffler. Ox 2 sensor wont effect the power of the motor only the fuel air mix, or am I wrong, can you help.

You are not wrong ....well sorta... in 94 the 'puter was sophisticated enough to also make timing changes when reading lean/rich conditions downstream exhaust from O2 sensor....catalytic converter clogged is a very good suspect here as well as a failed computer...... good luck and let me know

What does a catalytic convertor look like and where is it

THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR IS IN LINE IN THE EXHAUST. ON A CHEROKEE THEY ARE LOCATED APPROXIMATLY UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, UNDER THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE COMMONLY REMOVED BECAUSE THEY CAN BECOME PLUGGED UP AND CAUSE EXHAUST RESTRICTIONS. THEY HAVE VARIOUS SHAPES AND SIZES. THEY SOMEWHAT RESEMBLE A MUFFLER.

My 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee loses power going it uphill and when I accelorate it sputters and slows down.

it sounds like you may have a clogged catylic convertor in your exhaust system. after the car has run for a while look at the convertor under the car sometimes they will get red from the heat. or even the exhaust manifold could be red. this just happened to my suv. to confirm that it was my convertors I drilled a 3/8 in hole in the exhaust before the convertors. then I test drove the car going up a steep hill and the car ran fine no more lack of power and the engine ran smooth. if this is not the problem and you drilled a hole in the exhaust pipe then just go to a muffler shop and they will weld the hole closed for a few dollars. good luck

My problem is malfunction code 51 and if I have bad convertor does this result code 51ode

Code 51 is a lean code and is not caused by a converter most likely a vacuum leak is causing this problem if the engine seems to run fine inspect vacuum hoses and intake gaskets for leaks or breakage

I hear a rattle noise while driving my 2000 jeep grand cherokee , it sounds like a loose ring , it gets louder as i press the gas any sugestions as to what this be

Check your cattalic convert inside comb have come loose if so need to replace the unit and check muffler for noise matterial from convertor may also gone into muffler but maybe its only muffler or maybe only convertor. Another posibility check A/c clutch assembly maybe is coming apart or sloppy and likes to ring bells sound like.Turn on Ac if you have if the nosie is gone then you need a clutch assembly for your AC

Just Failed my emission test......hc ppm reading 485 allowed 189 also CO% 10.50 ALLOWED 2.36 WHAT CAN I DO TO CORRECT.

sounds like a bad catalytic converter, just did my 1985 Jeep could not get it to pass ended up replacing the catalytic converter, muffler, ox sensor and EGR valve then Jeep passed with flying colors.
if your cat is bad it reduces your exhaust flow causing loss of power and increases fuel consumption.

Every time i put a new muffler on my 1997 jeep grand cherokee the motor bakfires and blows the muffler compleatly apart it dosent do it right away it runs fine for a few miles then boom then it starts to...

What a funny set of events.Of course the tail pipe is clear(you would have checked that)The only other thing it might be is the cat/converter is blocked.New muffler is allowing a heap of air through and it suddenly clears and the bang. They do block up so it may be worth getting it checked.Hope this helps

Not shifting until 4000 rpms then very slow accel.

Check condition of the tranny fluid it should be pink. Bring the jeep to a muffler place and have them check the cat convertor for blockage.
