Take the vehicle to an autozone they will connect it to the computer and tell you what error code is in there and that will tell you where to start in regards to fixing the problem.

If plugs were real dirty... i am assuming maintainance is lax...yes do air filter, fuel filter ,and have your catalytic converter checked out for clogged...i'm thinking your engine codes are going to tell you O2 sensor rich/lean and they will be needing changed after you make engine healthy again...good luck

Check for spark by removing the spark plug from the engine. Ground the plug on the metal of the engine. Have someone crank the engine to see if there is a spark. Also after cranking see if you smell gas at the spark plug whole. If you have a spark and smell gas the next step is a compression test. If no gas then check the fuel injector's wires and the injector.

Oil in spark plugs

If you saw fresh oil, you were looking at valve cover gasket-seals leaking into the spark plug tubes.

Car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

1999 toyota corolla. Car would not shut off went

I assume the car is a petrol! to stop a petrol engine the ignition needs to be shut down! if there is over run happening there are a few reasons for this. There is a problem with ignition mudule! spark plugs coked up! or the cylinders are coked.
If the car is a Diesel model then the reason for this happening is the shut off valve on the fuel pump is at fault.

Hope this helps.

remove the spark plug wires and use a blow gun to dry the spark plug tubes of any water that may have gotten in, the blinking engine light means there is a missfire. and check those fuses with the headlights on and see if they have power.
