I have a 2000 maxima 5spd with 72000 miles and am having the same problem except it happens at 3500 rpm. No Fix yet but have heard its something to do with the mass air flow meter.

These have a common problem with the coil paks, there is a coil per cylinder, so there are six to choose from, if you can rev the engine while stationary and make it miss, unplug the coil wiring at the coil (will not shock you) one at a time, when one is unplugged and the engine speed does not slow down that is the cylinder that is not working, most likely that coil has failed.

Why want my 2002 Nissan Altima want rev over 2500 RMP?

It sounds like you have a problem with the AWU. Accelerator Working Unit, a fancy term for the gas petal. If it is not getting the proper voltage to the ECM it will default to a RPM like you are geting, 2000-2500 rpm. Find one from a junkyard and try it out. I would not shake anything that will just cause other issues.

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima and around 2000 rpm, the engine has a flat spot and then surges. After a while it pulls btween 2500-3000 rpm if it can get there. It even cut out on me as i floored the pedal.

2004 nissan maxima

Posible throttle assembly/throttle actuator failure. This car has an electronic throttle, not cable operated. We have seen some issues with those and the car will do exactly what you are descibing. Revs up to about 2500 and goes only 10mph. Just a tip.
