Radio lights off on 1998 ford explorer

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. The radio, time, and CD lights are permanently off. Any ideas on the probelm and how to fix it?

    I have the same problem but they are not always off. It phases in and out

1 -Check your head light switch and turn signal switch by taping them lightly - Common problem with fords to short signal light switch/head lights and they also have radio lights/clock lights control(lights dim for Radio/clock when you turn the lights on)

If you have checked all the fuses and switchs, possible that the light bulbs have burned out. Check with a local radio repair shop and they can remove the radio and install new bulbs.

Check internal harnesses connections or some loss ground wire.

1998 Explorer with AM/FM/Cass/CD/clock display does not light up


this is a diferent radio the problem is inside the radio
if this is the am/fm/cd/tape radio

take radio out open the radio next to the cd left side there is a small board on screw in back of the radio to remove
put it on a table and resolder the resistors there is 4 or take them out and clean them no need for new ones
this is the power suply board and it runs very hot

Installed a radio in 98 ford explorer now speedo does not work. fuses are are fine any ideas


ur old radio had a wire that went to speedo which is designed to raise to volume as u go faster recheck ur wiring may have grounded the wire
