Question about 1997 Nissan 200SX

2 Answers

My daughter has a 1997 Nissan 200sx. She left her lights on and her battery died. Her cousin tried jumper cables but put them on wrong the first time. He did succeed in getting her car started but most of the electrical things in the car such as the radio, tach, speedometer, windows and flashers did not work and after about 3 miles her car died again. She is stranded and needs a quick fix. Any Help would be appreciated.

A large fuse is blown close to the battery...40 or 50 amp....took out the alternator and several other things...since you know the reverse jump took the fuse out you can jump the fuse with a large gauge wire (jumper wire) and get it going or ...get the right fuse from the local parts house. This fuse is obvious when you look at it, might have a small plastic cover

I don't know what is wrong with my car the belt just recently broke and we had to replace it but before we did that the battery died when we were driving and we killed the battery trying to get the car...

sounds like it may be a bad alternator. jump start the car and if it gets going disconnect the negative battery cable and if it dies you have a bad alternator. It may die as soon as you unplug the jump start cables.

The o/d off light just appeared on my 1997 Nissan 200SX. What does it mean?

It means you have switched off the overdrive function of your transmission. There should be a button on your shifter to turn it back on. Or, possibly there is something wrong with your transmission.

Car just died after putting new starter

When you put the new starter in, you didn't put one of the cables back on the post. It probably grounded itself enough to start and run, then moved by vibration, or a pothole, or gravity, and killed the motor. As for the arcing battery.... are you sure you didn't attach the jumper cables to the wrong posts?
