Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

Hard starting after sitting awhile

My 98 jimmy takes several cranks to get started after sitting overnight or longer. After it starts it seems to run fine. No hesitation or stalling. Installed new pump a year ago along with filter. Is it possible for the pressure or gas to leak down? Can hear pump running and shut off before trying to start. This can take up to 4-5 times. Then everything is wonderful.

My 1998 GMC Jimmy also has a hard time starting after setting for a long period of time. I can hear the fuel pump kick on when I turn the key. I have replaced many diffrent parts on the vehicle including:

    - coolant temperature sensor

    - crank sensor

    - intake gaskets

    - and spark plugs

I have the same problem of it not starting just from sittingovernight, but not very often does it do this. Any other time, it runsgreat. I have had it for 3 years and the 3 different times it has notstarted,it may not start for a week or more, then all of a sudden itwill run again and be fine for awhile. I am not a car guy and of themechanics I have taken it too, nobody seems to have an answer for it.The only thing I notice is it seems the times it won't start for me areafter we have a hard rain. Does this make sense?

My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.

1996 GMC JIMMY, Hard starting after it has ran for awhile

could have a battery ground , check cables for corrosion.
could also be the starter or the solenoid.
you could also have a dead short in the battery itself, it will be ok if it sits but will give you fits for repeated starts

When it rains , the van just won't start. It cranks , but will not turn over. If it sits on level ground for awhile it seems to crank fine . My mechanic sprayed water over the engine & can't get it to...

Try turning the key on (but don't crank the engine) and wait about 2 minutes, then try and start the van. Anytime mine sits more than overnight, this is the only way it will start, otherwise runs fine.

Hope this helps.

I have a gmc 1500 5.7 1/2 ton truck after sitting overnight its hard starting, will crank over after several attemps will start. after running no starting problems. thanks

The check valve in the fuel pump may be bad, allowing the gasoline to return to the tank, causing excess cranking to get fuel back to the motor to start.

Hard but eventual start

Sounds like you may have a leaky injector which is both leaking fuel into one of the cylinders, and bleeding down any fuel rail pressure. Extra fuel makes it hard to start, loss of rail pressure takes a few seconds for fuel pump to build pressure back up.
