Question about 1989 Buick Skyhawk

My engine locked up

My Skylark has been setting for over a year now and now we are trying to start it and the engine will not turn over. The oil was always fresh and the car only has 35,000 miles on it. How can we fix this without a major overhaul?

I just rolled my 98 buick skylark i want to know how to repair it and how much it would cost

with out knowing exactly how long it was running for upside down I would suggest that the engine is damaged It may have a hydraulic lock in a cylinder ( full of water)
If the car was upside down, I imagine considerable body and panel damage
Best advice is to save your money , junk it and get another mobile car.

96 buick skylark starts & stalls, theft light on not flashing. Dissconnected map sensor still starts & stalls. No chip in key, changed fuel filter. whats goin on here?

This is pass lock antitheft system not pass key, pass key system is found on newer gm vehicles and has a transponder in the key. Pass lock system has a hall sensor on the lock cylinder.
System Operation
If the mechanical key is not used to start the vehicle, the PASSLOCK?"¢ system is designed to prevent vehicle operation. The mechanical key, in normal operation, will turn the PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder. The PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder will relay a Resistance Code (R-Code) to the instrument cluster. Within a preset time window started from an ignition switch input and will send a coded password to the powertrain control module (PCM). The instrument cluster will determine the validity of the R-Code. For the fuel injectors to operate normally, the powertrain control module (PCM) receives the correct code
Passlock System
Disabling the engine unless the PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder is correctly engaged by a mechanical key. The PASSLOCK?"¢ system is designed to prevent vehicle theft. This system is similar in concept to the Passkey system. The PASSLOCK?"¢ eliminates the need for a key mounted resistor pellet. The components of this system are as follows:
PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder

Ignition switch

Instrument Cluster and Powertrain control module (PCM)

If the theft light is on there is a problem and a code set. You can try to do reset . Turn the key on , don't try an start the car . Let key on for 10 min. till the light goes out, if it goes out turn ignition off an wait a couple of min. then start the car

No oil pressure

Does the engine make a bad noise, like it is not getting oil? If not, I would try replacing the oil pressure switch. I have had to do this twice in the past three years that we have owned my wife's 02 Buick.

Lifters start to tick very loudy only after freeway driving but does not tick when I have a fresh oil change for at lease two to three weeks after freeway driving and the oil level is always at a safe

You cannot fix faulty lifters by changing the oil or using oil additives. The engine has to be repaired. If the lifters are ticking loudly bits of metal are being ground away and being circulated through your engine.

Using oil additives is a total waste of money and in fact is detrimentally affecting the lubrication job of the engine oil.

Where is the radiator drain on a 96 buick skylark?

Not all radiators have drains. The only way to drain some is to remove the lowest hose. If you wish to flush the system you could remove a hose anywhere in the system (with heater control set to hot) and insert a garden hose to inject fresh water through a COLD or slightly warm engine.

1998 buick skylark security theft light on,car starts and turns of right away?

Your PassKey Security System is malfunctioning. The most likely cause is a bad ignition lock cylinder. Try this to get it started:
1. Set the parking brake. (This will keep your headlamps from coming on and running your battery down)
2. Turn the key to the "START" position and release it to the "RUN" position. (Do not turn the key to the "OFF" position or you will have to start over.)
3. Leave the key in the RUN position for about 10 minutes until the SECURITY light stops flashing.
4. When the light stops flashing, turn the key to the "START" position again.

This should get the engine started so you can drive the vehicle to get it repaired.

94 Buick Skylark, 3.1L, no start condition cause diagnosed as depressurized lifters? The car sat for a few weeks with the pushrods removed, the intake manifold gasket was being replaced. YES I'm...

I have never heard of this before but if this is the case then cranking the engine will refill them with engine oil surely ,i mean how do they build them on the assembly line at 3 engines a minute then start them from new on the test bed before the engine leaves the assembly for the body plant .Are you sure something else isnt wrong like the vacumn pipe to the valve on the end of the fuel injector line ?

The car stalls, when it does start, it shakes. Sometimes it won't start at all. Last time I drove it, it shut down & I couldn't start it back up. Buick Skylark 1993.

Well if a tune up is that over due, it is definitely the first thing i would do. Fresh oil, new plugs and wires should be at the top of that list.

When you remove the plugs, inspect the ends and watch for oil and smell for gas. This could be signs of other internal engine problems that can't be seen from the surface.

Something I do on just about every car that passes my way with these type of problems is to smell the oil. Be sure there is no gassy smell or whitish look to it at all. Also look at the antifreeze to make sure it is not a milky color. These are signs of a bad head gasket or intake. However oil with some gas in it could also result from the vehicle being flooded multible times. So go forward with the tune up to insure this is not the case.

Once you have done all this, if problems still persist, please feel free to come back and we can go from there.

Please feel free to rate my assistance and ... Thanks for using FixYa.
