    dodiejns,
I took my 1999 GMC Jimmy to a mechanic tonight to see if he could hook up to the machine to find out about the 4 wheel drive problem and he did tell me that I have a broken motor mount would that cause the 4 wheel not to engage and also I need tires and alignment the toe in is out tires wearing on inside could this cause the problem? I will also do what you suggest too! Please write back before I go get tires. Thanks babsproblem

If you have front end problems like an pitman arm or idle arm needs to be replaced, it may not got into 4 wheel drive. Go to the nearest muffler shop or mechanic to have them lift up your truck to see if something needs to be replaced.

I don't have the owners manual, and have never owned a 4x4 in the past, as stupid as this sounds i don't know the proper procedure to engage 4 wheel drill hi

you have a lever or switch that engages 2wheel normal driving 4 wheel high for wet slippery conditions ,then you have four wheel low for real muddy and deep snow conditions
normally change from 2 wheel to four wheel high on the move .important nearly all 4 wheel drive vehicles must be stopped to engage low otherwise do damage to transmission

My 1999 chevy silverado 1500 four wheel drive won't engage. The truck is in 2wd now. When I push 4wd hi or low, I can hear the actuator try to engage the four wheel drive. The four hi or low button will...

You probably have a bad encoder motor. It is located on the side of the transfer case on the drivers side.It is black. The other problem they had with these was the switch but you have already replaced this so your next thing is the encoder motor.Hope this helps.Good luck.

4 wheel drive switch will not engage to 4wd auto or low, just bli

I had the same problem for the exact car. After I got a few things done, It started to work again. Not sure what needed to be done to get it back working. I replaced my pitman arm, and idle arm and some more front end parts. Then one day when I needed it, it came on. I believe if you have front end problems, it just won't kick end for safety issues.

Jimmy wont lock in four wheel drive.

You need to see if the transfer case engagement motor is defective.

2000 GMC Jimmy Transmission Whine

Does it sound like a loud winding sound coming from the front right side? I have a 2001 Jimmy and the 4wd tries to engage when driving up steep hills and going at highway speeds. The actuator vacuum switch engaged when the transfer case vacuum switch sends the vacuumed air to the actuator. What is happening is their is either a leak in the vacuum lines, a faulty actuator switch, or a faulty transfer case vacuum switch. When the jimmy has enough air pulling in, the extra vacuum is trying to push the actuator switch in when it is not supposed to. It is a much cheaper fix than a transmission. GMC should have recalled the whole 4wd system on any of the S10's, the JImmy's, and Blazers.
