Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car won't start assuming the immobiliser is the problem

I used the car in the morning fine then in the afternoon i unlocked it with the remote all the doors opened appart from the driver's door, and the alarm went off. i tried to stop it but nothing. eventually it stoped.
but now the car will not start all the lights on the dash are off apart from the ABS. and the remote only locks the same doors apart from the driver's door. and the alarm is not working, and the switches in the driver door are not working either. i don't know what to do i have read nearly all of the non starters on fixya and i can't find one that fits my problem.
PLEASE HELP.

thank you very much for that, the car started after disconnecting the battery, but there is still a problem because the dashboard and the locking, immobiliser, alarm keeps working and stopping. any ideas..

i have got the error codes by switching on and off with the key and they came up as 12 and 55 do you know what they mean?

    thanx again for your help.

If the battery is good and charged up. try disconnecting the battery this will reset everything including the alarm system. Then you should be good to go.

How does the ignition interlock work on the mazda mpv 2003 ? I can't start the car without the remote control : Simply turning the key will not even crank, does nothing.

Often, you need to press the unlock button on the remote twice. First press unlocks the door and second press disables the immobiliser and allows the vehicle to start. The key alone will not start the vehicle.

Alternatively, when the key is in the ignition - press the remote unlock again.

The remote acts as an immobiliser device. The reason your car won't start on the key is probably because the system won't allow any key in the ignition - it is preventing theft of the vehicle. Once the unlock button on the remote is pressed the system then recognises that key is the legitimate one for the vehicle and the disables the immobiliser and allows you to start the car

Tip

I removed the battery and now the car won't start

'I disconnected the car battery/changed the car battery and now my car won't start'

Another common question on Fixya.
You've done nothing wrong. It's simply that the immobiliser doesn't recognise the key.

Put the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition on. Press the LOCK button twice on your remote. Wait 1 minute.

Turn the ignition off and press the UNLOCK button on the remote a couple of times. This will disarm the immobiliser.

The key should be recognised and your vehicle will start.

I have a M9601 alarm and M99 immobiliser fitted to a mk5 xr3i,everything was fine until yesterday when the car was started first thing in the morning as normal but i had to go back indoors so meant turning...

Hi

if the battery is not much good then you will get issues like this also being a ford I would check the earth connection from the car battery to the car body, the main feed. also there is another o the gearbox and another that runs to the altenator, these are all common poor earth problems. ensure they have a good conatct.

Secondly have you checked the fuel relay is not loose or maybe on it's way out, this again is not unusual, if the relay fails then it has an electro magnet inside, poor powr from the battery will make it stick either open or closed like a light switch kinda, you should here it ticking at the fuse box when the key is turned, also immobilisers often use this part of the cars wiring to stop fuel coming to the engine as a security measure. Maybe thats the issue the immobiliser shutting the relay down.

I would certainly check that first as its super simp,e to replace.

Dan

you need to reset the alarm system with the remote(s) as per the book.(you can leave it unlocked as the car has an immobiliser and cannot be hot wired.) i leave mine unlocked all the time and just use the key to start it.how many people respond to the alarm going off??
