Passenger Windshield Wiper Not Working

I have a 2004 cavalier and the passsenger wiper stopped working. It seems that the piece that connects the wiper to the llinkage arm is worn or broken and when re-attached will only stay attached for a few minutes before popping off again. What is this copnnection joint called and can I get it from a parts store separately? Is it part of another piece that can easily be replaced? I'd rather not take it to the dealer if I don't have to.

I have the same exact problem, there is a white bushing, I attempted to press the two parts together for quite a while, to avail, it did not pop together. I alsoi tried to zip tie two parts together .. It did not work either ... Anyway, Im looking to find the cheapest repair, it looks like the white bushing is pressed into the metal linkage .. Did anybody have luck fixing it ? Thanks

Generally this part SHOULD be available from a dealer (however, from time to time they make this stuff so you must replace the entire wiper transmission (what the entire assembly is called) If you show the parts guy the location of the broken part (he has diagrams on his computer) he can tell you about availability. I just call it a bushing, 'though there may be a lock clip installed over it (if there is, that's probably what's broken) If not available except as a complete transmission, you can likely get what you need at a junkyard.

Probably referred to as "wiper arm pivot" mechanism. Should be available separately, if nowhere else, dealer or perhaps a good one from recycler (wrecking yard.)

I have a similar problem and went to a Certified Chevrolet Dealer, they stated that the white nylon "bushings" are not sold individually by Chevy. They told me I would need to buy an entire wiper arm transmission for $160. The best solution I have gotten from mechanic friends of mine is to remove the black plastic grill cover so you can access the linkage assembly for the wipers. If the bushing will not pop back into place, you can drill through the "ball" on the driver's side arm and put a bolt with a locknut through the hole connecting the two arms. It will serve the same purpose as the bushing. Just be sure to use rubber washers so there is no rubbing.

Passenger Side Windshield Wiper Broken

Hi Jill,
The first thing to check is a 13mm nut that holds the wiper arm in place.See if you can move the wiper arm freely back and forth. There is a nut at the base of that wiper arm,Lift up a cover that is hiding the nut. If it comes loose from being froze from ice or snow. Put the wiper in its rest position and tighten the nut back up.

If it were the motor neither side would move. Chances are its the linkage.
You'll probably need to remove the panel under the windshield to access the linkage and check it out.

Replacing wiper linkage

WINDSHIELD WIPERS

It can be faulty wiper motor or blown wiper control fuse.

Do you hear any kind of noise when you starter the wiper function. If yes then fuse is ok, but issue is wiper motor.

If no movement at all and no noise then its blown fuse or shorted/loose wiper control wiring: -----

My windshield wipers don't work

To troubleshoot car windshield wiper problems, you need to thoroughly investigate problems with any of its operating parts. Here are some of the things that you need to check to determine why are your car windshield wipers not working.

Check Wiper Motor
The wiper motor is the driving force of the windshield wiper. Feel the motor and listen to a humming sound. If there is no humming, the motor is the problem. Check if the motor is working properly and see to it that its electrical connections are made properly. If you find that the motor is dead and beyond repair, get it replaced immediately.

Check For Break in Connecting Wires
The connecting wires of the motor sometimes go loose and that may cause the windshield wipers to stop working. Also check the battery plug connection which the motor has. Connecting the loose wires properly or fixing/replacing the plug might solve your problem.

Check Wiper Switch
Another wiper assembly part that can malfunction is the wiper switch itself. Check for switch malfunction and if you find that is indeed the problem, get it replaced from a mechanic.

Check for Bent Wiper Arms
Bent wiper arms can cause the operation of the wipers to be hampered. If the wiper arms are bent beyond repair, get them replaced immediately.

Check For Blown Out Car Fuse
A blown up car fuse could be the culprit that has stopped the windshield wipers from working. Check the fuse assembly under the dashboard of the car. Replacing a blown fuse might fix the problem of windshield wipers not working.

Windshield Wiper Sprayers Not Working - Things to Check

Sometimes the windshield wiper sprayer stops working which can be very annoying. The washer mechanism is a self cleaning mechanism for the windshield. Here are some of the things that you need to check in case it is not working.

Check Windshield Washer Motor
The windshield washer mechanism might have been impaired due to the malfunctioning of the wiper washer motor. Check if its working and get it replaced if it is beyond repair.

Check Windshield Washer Fluid Level
Sometimes the washer doesn't work because the washer fluid levels are not filled to requisite levels. Filling in fluid might restore normal functioning.

Check For Broken Washer Hose
The connecting washer hose that connects the reservoir to the nozzle, might be broken or worn out stalling the overall operation. Check the hose for leaks and get it replaced.

Check Washer Nozzle For Clogging
Last thing to check is the nozzle of the washer for clogging. An obstruction in the washer nozzle might be the reason for windshield wiper sprayers not working. Using a pin, clean the clogged nozzle. This might restore the sprayer to the normal working condition.

One windshield wiper not working...

the problem is in the mechanics of the wiper at the firewall (inside undr the vents) the connector to the wiper arm has come loose from the controlling arm (laymen's terms) you'll need to access the workings and re-connect the arm..the access panel is normally held on with a few screws.....make sure the repair will stay connected and is not worn out.. good luck to you....it is about an hour fix...

Driver's side windshield wiper stopped working duing a heavy rain. I can move it by hand easily. Has the linkage come loose?

Hello, I would say that is exactly what has happened. If you can move the wipers with no resistance it's likely one of the bolts has come loose. Both wiper arms are linked to one wiper motor.
