Can I use a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T Instrument Cluster in an identical 2002 model year?

I have a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T with a bad instrument cluster. Can I use an instrument cluster from an identical 2001 model and make it work? The part numbers appear to be the same and the cluster is identical. The rear connection is also the same. Im just wondering firstly if it will work and secondly if it will require dealer reprogramming. Thank you for any help.

I appreciate the response from Terry May and I will do that if I end up with a mileage discrepency but I have no interest in selling this car simply because its paid for so I intend to drive it until it is dead. :) Heres the situation. I have 2 cars. I have a 2002 S60 2.4T that I drive. I also have a 2001 S60 2.4T that I use for a parts car. They are identical. I took the Cluster from the 2001 which works in that car and plugged it in to the 2002 and all I get is a check engine light which tells me that it has to be a programming problem but the dealers wont even talk to you about it. They want to sell you a new one for 1500.

If anyone is interested, here is what I learned. I got this from Swedespeed.com. For now, only the 2002 and 2003 are interchangable strictly because of the software. Volvo apparently has this model year under lockdown in many ways. They will not yet release any fixes for the 2002 apparently. Thanks Volvo!

I had the same problem on my 2003 V70 with 138K miles. It is an easy fix. Simply remove your DIM by pulling the steering wheel all the way out and down (make sure you remove the key for all the next steps), remove trim around the cluster by pulling gently from the top and once the clips release, pull out the bottom. Next remove the top of the cover directly behind the steering wheel. Once you get those pieces off you will see (4) torx 25 screws on the four corners of the speedo. Remove screws and gently pull top of speedo towards you. Unplug the green connector on the top center of the speedo. I sent my speedo to Powls Speedo repair in Lancaster, PA. There are others such as BBA reman. Powls can either repair your speedo or as happened in my case, I had to get a "donor" speedo from eBay for $75. It was an 2002 S70 and I had it sent directly to Powls. They transfered the mileage info/programming stuff over to the "donor" speedo an sent both back to me. I went to the dealership and had them reprogram in my "donor" speedo uisng vadis. Install opposite of removal. Total costs with shipping, donor speedo and programming was just over $300. Good Luck!!

SOURCE: instrument panel cluster gauges and odometer has stopped working

I had all my analog instrument panel gauges stop working after they did the state emissions test. I found the proper fuse in the fuse block located under the hood. Simply unplugged the fuse, noticed it was still good, and plugged the same fuse (10A) back in and all the gauges started working again. Guess it needed a reset atfer they plugged in for the emissions.

SOURCE: need to reprogram 2000 windstar instrument cluster to old keys

unfortunately , no you can not.
Ford is good like this... they make their own tools for any number of FORD ONLY items , such as fasteners and etc. so that you can not work on them without buying their tools first.
The security features are definitely something you will need to contact the dealer about.
Wish I had a more positive answer for you!

SOURCE: 1991 Volvo 740GL Speedometer

I remove two panel underneath the steering column. The first panel is removed using a 10 mm socket. The second panel is removed using a torx socket (can't remember the size). Removing these two panels gives you room to get to the clip on speedomter. Looking at the speedometer, you should see two rectangular holes on each side of the speedometer cover. I use a awl to push in the clip (you could use a screwdriver). Looking underneath the dash, you should be able to see the clip you are pushing on with the awl. I take my 2nd awl and put it behind the clip. I get the left side to release. One the speedometer cover releases, you can see the speedometer. You will see the 4 torx screws (t20) and two smaller clips holding the speedometer. All that is left is the wiring. (I take a sharpie pen and mark one of my wire locations on the speedometer. I am not sure what it does. It is a single wire.)

My dash board has quit working on my 2002 Volvo what can I do about it

You can try slapping the dash above the cluster with the palm of your hand to see if anything happens. If so, the cluster will need to be removed for inspection/repair. Also, check fuses for the guages

Instrument cluster of my volvo is completely dead sometimes intermittently comes do not know what cfould be the reason

If you have confirmed that the fault is intermittent, make sure if it is coming on during jecks or movements of the car. If so there is a confirmed fault of the wiring harness making a bad connection with the instrument cluster. go under the dassh and start by moving you hand over all the connectors/ harness shaking for the dash board to react to power. slowly proceed to get to the fault area., If you ahve not been able to acieve this , then the instrument cluster unit has to be dismounted and checked for cracks or dry connections. Check this out. good day

I have a 2002 Windstar Limited and the "Message Center" on the dash is completely and does not display anything. Is this an easy fix, such as a fuse? Using the owner's manual, I cannot determine which...

If the rest of the instrument cluster is working properly then you probably need a new instrument cluster. A new or working used instrument cluster will likely fix your problem, but a dealer will have to install it and transfer the programming from the old cluster to the new.

Speedometer freezes

GM has had a issue with the clusters in the 2003-2005 trucks. The cluster will be replaced for free for your truck if it has less then 70k miles. I would take it to your local dealer and tell them that the voltage gauge sticks at times. They should order one for you, takes 1-2 days and replace it for you at no charge. If this does not fix the problem, you will have a new cluster at no charge.Unless the battery light comes on, the alternator should be good. This is a copy of the GM bulletin.

#07187C: Special Coverage Adjustment - Instrument Panel Cluster Gauge Needle Function - (Mar 20, 2009)

This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 70,000 miles (110,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

Dealers are to replace the instrument panel cluster after the condition has been verified. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

For verified failures between 70,001 miles (110,001 km) and 80,000 miles (130,000 km) on U.S. vehicles, dealers are to provide the customer with an instrument panel cluster (IPC) only. Any additional costs, including labor to replace the instrument panel cluster, will be the responsibility of the customer. Dealers are responsible for the return of the customer's IPC back to the Electronic Service Center.

For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 28, 2007 for 2003-2004 model year vehicles, and March 23, 2009 for 2005 model year vehicles, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to September 28, 2007 for 2003-2004 model year vehicles, or March 23, 2009 for 2005 model year vehicles, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

Involved are all 2003 and 2004 model year and certain U.S. 2005 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles built within the following VIN breakpoints: 51100014-51247028 / 5E100002-5E223209 / 5F800001-5F882297 / 5Z100003-5Z224691

Good luck friend.

Instrument Cluster

No. 2001 to 2003 are interchangeable. I am currently looking to replace mine on a 2002 and have consistently been told those years are the same. These babys are pricey, perhaps you can trade your 2004 for one that will work.
